Gunsmithing .308 to 6mm Creedmoor

Thanks for the information guys. Is there an optimum barrel length to get the ballistic effects with the 6mm Creedmoor. A balance of handiness/manuverability and ballistics. Are there different tweaked reamers out there or is there one standard?

That didn't take you too long, now did it? Lol. I just finished reading about your great experience at K&M ( MUST do that some day for sure) and how everyone that was anybody was shooting 6mm there. And...BANG, here you are already getting ready to make the move. I applaud your decisiveness and will watch as you make the transition.

I too, will make the transition someday, but I'll get my kicks vicariously for now.

Good luck!

Well what I saw there was a clue. I'm not sold, I want to do some more homework. But it really does make sense when you look at it in JBM or any ballistic calculator.

my barrel for my 308 and 6mm creed are both 24" and I'm getting exactly what I want from both. I would go any longer on the creed but the 308 could be trimmed up a little if I was so inclined.

^^ Pretty much agree with this from my experience ^^ You are gonna love the 6 Creed.

I recently switched one of my rifles from a 1/2'' 308 barreled rifle to the 6 Creedmoor with a 26" Bartlein barrel and love it. Moon of Crescent Customs did an outstanding job!

why fire form when you dont have to, OAL issues......

^^ Agree with this as well^^ Having said that I don't think my 6 Creed is some sort of magic pill (not implying others do either). It is my preferred method to launch the 105 class bullets at around 3100 fps. Other cases including 6XC could also fit the bill. I made my choice and am very happy with it.

capt.,
what contour and twist did Moon use on your rifle? Which brake is that? it looks like its blended perfectly. Moon built my .308 at his previous shop. he is awesome to deal with.

I went with a 243AI, so I can fire factory ammo if it is all I can find. Fire forming is shooting, and I plan to shoot it lots, so fire forming doesn't scare me.

But I have some doubts that u should have gone with a 6 creedmore. Time will tell.

It's a Bartlein med palma barrel, 1.75 twist, Badger break and it's well balanced! He is awesome to work with! Very smooth sweet shooter, no recoil.

New barrel im getting a 6.5 x 47 and will switch it and my .308 barrel out depending on what rifle I want to shoot.

I'm going to rebarrel mine in 260. I think we were in the minority shooting 308's. still had a good time though. I tried to return your call the other day, got your voicemail. Give me a call when you get a chance.
