Been lurkin on this forum for a couple of months, and thought it was time to go ahead and introduce myself. I'm a active duty submariner who enjoys reloading, recreational shooting, and hunting (for now) and stumbled across this site awhile ago when I was looking up recommendations for different scopes. Since then it has been alot of reading to better understand every aspect of precision shooting and load development. I don't really have a dedicated "precision" rig, but I do have some decent toys. So far, since being on this site I have made (IMO) some good decisions on purchases and have been very happy.
This is my list of items I've purchased that was directly influenced by this site. It may not be the best equipment, but it fits my shooting needs and budget.
-Vortex viper pst 1-4x24 MRAD
-Nightforce 2-10x32 MOAR
-SWFA SS 3-15x42
-Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 MRAD
-And put a GAP-10 on order

So, I would like to thank this site and the forum members for the wealth of information, and look forward to learning more and maybe someday contributing.

ALL those scope you mentioned are all good/great scope and will serve you well..NOW im sure people here will askk/say , how far youll be shooting? are you keeping rifle light? or strictly target..plate or paper?GAP10 is great rifle..i only shoot my Gap 10 to 500yd so i instaled 3-15x56 NF (which for me is alot of magni)my sako 75 223 has 4-16x50 pst vortex..im not gonna mention all my bolt action since were talking about gas gun..do you have a budget or you get plenty kala($) i have all those scope and IMO the nightforce the best to your last penny..unless vortex HD or swfa HD are on your choices no doubt the NF will give you best glass.question do you need NF? not really specialy how we live here paying the price to wake up in paradise everyday(very expensive)..the rest of the scope above will take care business..for me and im sure most will agree, (pidgin >>>you already cried n swallow that expensive loco moco (GAP10)brah myt aswell get the best gravy for it! cry once go get that nighforce that way no moh turnin back kyn!you no need plenty of that magnification 15 power nough brah! lol

eh bradda bjay mahalos for the welcome,
Another site that I'm apart of is Hawaii's Firearm, Shooting, and Hunting Community - 2aHawaii if your not already aware of it.
It's a good site for local discussions. To answer your questions, to date the longest range I have to shoot at is some 450yrds plates (about 4x4"), which isn't much but until I have more time to practice and enter comps that will be about as far as I will be able to reach out to for the time. I see my self as a recreational shooter for now so I kinda just learn as I go. I keep my AR's light, but my bolt gun's tend to weigh a little more. Which is fine for me cus I'm a big guy. As far as my choices of scopes, I've been lucky and have a couple of friends that let me look through their collection of scopes to help me with my decision making. With that said every NF I've looked through had exceptional glass, but do I really need that type of quality for what I do? Probably not, but sometimes I buy things because I want to. I still have a good amount of wait for the GAP-10, which is fine with me cus I have toys and reloading to keep me busy (and keiki) and plan on putting the SWFA SS on it when it gets here.

aloha
