this is a good one! Detroit cops.

They must be not guilty of any crimes, they've already been released. One of the most honest govt's in America has to be Detroit. I sure hope people don't start getting down on the Govt workers in Detroit, it's not as if they've done anything wrong.

Couldn't we just sell Detroit to the Chinese?

Seriously.

Doubt they'd take the deal. I did mention to some of the Canadian's I work with here that we should just annex Detroit to Canada for free and call it West Windsor. They didn't seem to go for it. Its getting so you can't even give the damn city away anymore.

In all honesty, I was just given an "investment opportunity" from a friend, who wants to buy up all the cheap houses in Detroit and then sell out to a developer.

Apparently after the bankruptcy is over, there will be a fire sale like no other. Bankruptcy proceeding could take some time, though.

Kinda tempting to be front-running, and I could own 10 houses for less than $10K.

Talk is of developers bulldozing damn near everything and taking advantage of the supposed "outsourcing to Detroit" of telecommunications companies in need of good housing.

I dunno. I'm on the fence about this. Need to do more research.

Have you ever seen the cheap housing in detroit?

The city won't even bulldoze it....

No, I know. It supposedly will be bulldozed by the land/housing developers in the next few years. I honestly doubt that the city could afford to bulldoze anything.

These won't be houses that you fix up. The houses are worthless--it's the land underneath that is potentially worth something.

I suggest you visit downtown detroit.... You could probably own a while subdivision for 10k

I spend a couple weeks a month there.... Unless you move the people the land will remain worthless.

True.

It would probably be along the lines of "Urban Renewal". I'm discussing with several developers about the possibilities of leveling entire subdivisions.

Naturally the people living there in those houses would have to go, and the owners would sell easily if presented with the right offer. It has been determined that the vast majority of houses are occupied by renters, who would just be evicted after a certain date prior to construction.

It's been a while since I've been to Detroit. Strangely, if developers move in after the bankruptcy, I see a bright future for Detroit within the next 5-10 years. Jobs, tax monies, construction, new gorgeous buildings (I've seen the plans, very nice), lower crime rate, higher property values, etc.

But to put the thread back on line, I won't be asking for a police escort to visit my purchases.....LOL!

Police escort won't help. Part of the problem.

I hope it works...detroit can be a great city. My boss invested tens of millions there the last few years.

Cheap workforce and endless office space for free is what helped.

90% if the people are great. 10%!will finish burning that place to the ground. Eviction or not.

Buy it hopin for farmland....that's about all I'd expect from places there.

Krav - I would pay good money to see the look on your face when you realize there a lot of black people in Detroit...heck you might even have to talk to one and be nice... talk about a Fear Factor moment.

Dunno if Kilpatrick's old program is still going, but it used to be that you could buy up an abandoned crack house for a dollar. Considering that the population has dropped by 700k in the last 13 years, I would hazard that you could own more than a block for 10k. If you get 1k/acre, you will be a millionaire many times over.
