144 grain 6.5mm lapua

Re: 144 grain 6.5mm lapua

Well lets see, according Bryan Litz the 144 has a lower G1 and G7 BC compared to a 140 Amax, which also cost 15 bucks less per hundred(MidwayUSA price), so theres why you never hear anything about it.

haha ,
reloading = interior

litz book = exterior, his book isnt about reloading.

most people dont shoot lapua bullets at all , i think the amax, smk, and vld's are the most commons bullets loaded.

Re: 144 grain 6.5mm lapua

Lapua is high quality and consistency (really the same things) and you pay for that. For the more demanding shooter it's usually worth it in their estimation. They pay the higher tariff; and therefore, they get to choose.

If I shot so well that anything but Lapua would be the main thing holding me back, I'd do the same.

I don't; and Hornady, Sierra, and Nosler bullets do not hamper my performance. So thats what I use. I find them easier to afford, too; so it's a win/win for my kind of shooter.

Maybe I'd be saying the same about Bergers, but my dealer doesn't have them (or Lapua) on the shelf like the others; so I'm probably not going to know enough to say any time soon.

Re: 144 grain 6.5mm lapua

Regardless of whether it's the company or a well-regarded specialist in the reloading scene, the disparity of info about these bullets has me curious about their actual performance. They have a different use than hollow points, and that should be taken into account. Personally I would count these as high on my list of specialty bullets to try. We definitely need more sources for BC than the two cited. I have heard nothing but good about them from those who have had experience with them.

I know this is an old thread...but, I tried the 144 Lapua's in my 260 Remington, and they worked great. They cost significantly more than the 142 SMK though. With the price difference, and my shooting skill, both bullets easily shoot under half inch, but I'm simply not a bench rest shooter, and can't get enough difference in accuracy between the two to make the price difference cost effective.

I like the heavier bullets, but frankly, the 144 and 142 remain supersonic well past the distances I usually shoot, so I just don't need 2 more grains of bullet weight...especially not for the price difference.
