Bought a B&C Medalist A2 style (2092-02) stock for a Remington 700 s/a.

Tried installing it and if the front action screw is tightened more than snug, it locks the bolt up completely. Can't be torqued down at all. Obviously the bedding block was machined wrong or too much.

I've had this barreled action, bottom metal and action screws in 3 different HS stocks, an M40 B&C and even an AICS with no trouble fitting properly.

Contacted the seller and they recommended trying some shims but that totally defeats the purpose of a drop-in-fit stock with bedding block which is a main reason I got the stock (also because my budget won't afford a McMillan or Manners)!

Finally the seller offered an exchange for the same model but it's going to be at least three more weeks of waiting with shipping to find out if it will fit. I've read many good reviews on B&C stocks and the M40 stock I had was nice. I set a buddy's rifle up in one too and it shoots great. Hopefully I just got 1 bad one.

So..... Wondering if anyone else has had any similar issues with B&C stocks??

Ya could do that. It's the factory Remington screw. It's the right size...... The B&C bedding block is too thin.
Got a "drop on fit" stock to not have to do that though.

Yep, just shorten the screw. Go to HomeDepot/Lowes and get two nuts that fit the screw. Use a hack saw and cut a slit into each nut on one side. Thread the nuts onto the screw so that the slits are on the same side/flat. Place the screw (head end, down, and the threaded end protruding form the top of the vise jaws), with the nuts in a vise with the slit side/flat of the nuts facing any side but the jaw faces. Clamp down. As you tighten the vise jaws, the nuts will collapse and hold the screw/bolt firmly without damaging the threads. Use a bastard file and take two or three threads off. When you take the screw/bolt out of the vise, take the nuts off, insuring you are taking any remaining burrs with the nuts. Test fit; repeat as needed until you have the desired length...

Keep the modified nuts in a drawer; trust me, you'll use them again. :)

HTH...

I shipped it back today. (Although I do want to try that trick with cutting threads that PMI mentioned.)

I was afraid to get a replacement that had the same problem so was trying to find out if this was common with B&C stocks.

OP, you realize that the drop-in part refers to your not having to do any inletting. You can expect any stock that has a different belly profile than what you had will require an adjustment to the action screws. You basically wasted the coin to ship the stock and the three or four weeks you'll have to wait for a replacement stock.

Didn't realize that.
Had this action, bottom metal and same action screws in about 5 different stocks without needing to change a thing.… Including a similar B&C stock.
