I am following the directions for my long distance brass prep from the sticky on this forum.i purchased a lyman flash hole deburrer, this is a true pain in the ass to get this tool to line up with the flash hole,I am reloading 338 lapua,is there a better way to do this step

Skip it.... Lapua brass is top quality and doesnt need it really (if new). You should be fine for a few reloading cycles as well.

As Dan said Lapua doesn't need it. I use the Lyman tool on other brass and find it simple to use. I've never thought it was a pain in the ass. I am a mechanic by trade so working with tools is natural to me though. Your mileage obviously did vary.

The Lyman is universal. If you do use the tool, you just have to get a feel for it. Mine is on one of my rcbs case prep stations. It doesn't always seat in the flash hole instantly, you have to come straight down on top of it.

The brass is hornady. The issue is lining up the tool so the drill end finds the centre of the flash hole

You have to put it in straight and it will hit the hole 100% of the time.
