Been shooting this powder in my 20" AR for nearly 2 years now, and I've noticed that it's a pretty dirty powder. Loading 23.4 gr. with a 70 VLD and 22.1 gr. with a 77 gr. SMK. Accuracy is great, SDs are amazing, but geez... Very surprised since its supposed to be made for this application.

Kombyatoch,

I've used AR-comp for a complete highpower season, and find it quite a bit dirty. Substantially dirtier than the powder it replaced (2000MR).

I find that i cant run more than say 300 rounds before the dirt and grim lead to failures.

Accuracy has been excellent however.

Question for you:

is 22.1gr an accuracy load? Did you determine this load using an OCW method?

I was previously running 23.5gr behind 77SMKs in my wylde-chambered RRA NM rifle, however, that load is too hot for my new krieger-barreled upper.

Yep, it was found with an OCW test. And it was in a Krieger barrel. The node changes depending on crimp. I use a Lee Factory Crimp die.

Kombayotch,

Thanks for your feedback. A couple of more questions:

1. What is the barrel length and twist rate of your Krieger?
2. I don't crimp my loads. What is your node without crimp?

Thanks again for your responses.

We have the same barrel specs.

Just realized i never shot my service rifle with 2000MR. I shot it with Varget (24.7gr + 77SMK) and 23.5gr AR-comp +77SMK.

Never got velocity data with the Varget powder.

I tried 2000MR with the 70 VLDs and it was terrible. Groups sucked, velocity was nothing to brag about and it was smokey like black powder.

I've only loaded & shot 100rds loaded w/AR Comp so far just some plinking rounds, just to try it out. My most accurate load I've tried has been 24.1gr, using 55gr bulk Hornady FMJ-BT.
Anyway did seem like it was a little bit dirtier compared to the TAC I'd been using but not terrible. Now I've got try it out w/some 69 & 77gr SMKs.
