Suppressors What's the coating on ss sparrow suppressors?

Well I just cleaned my ss sparrow for the first time after 500 rounds or so. I read on their insteuctiins that ultrasonic cleaning with solvents is fine. So I did some ultrasonic cleaning with my usual citranox mix.

It seems as if something didn't agree with the mix, because all the black coating came off the end cap and the end part of the baffle stack. I'm just happy I didn't put the tube in there.

Is this supposed to happen? What is that black coating? Is it something that I can recoat with?

The finish is a Black Oxidization. Anytime you use something aggressive enough to eat the lead and carbon build up off the metal there is a chance you will take the finish with it. In the SS Sparrow the finish on the core is cosmetic only, the discoloration will not effect performance. I got your email this morning and responded. Follow the instructions and we will get you taken care of.

I just wanted to update that I contacted silencerco yesterday and they already replied today. They offered to fix it up. I'm not sure if I'm gonna send it in yet, since I'm gonna be using this can a lot and I'll have to clean it anyways.

It's good to know they stand behind their products, even when it's not their fault that I wasn't informed that this would happen. Great company.
