I hate the stock Remington 700 bottom metal!

I've got a Remington 700 police (300 win mag, so LA) and I really farking hate the bottom metal on it! Its looks cheap and feels cheap too. So I'm looking to replace it. I would like something that does not require inletting (since that adds cost and pain in the ass factor), but I'm afraid that with the H-S stock, that might not be possible. Anybody have any experience with this? I do not necessarily need a detachable magazine system (I have found the internal box mag basically useless) but I would not be opposed to it either. I think with the LA system, my options will sadly be somewhat more limited.

I think Pacific Tool & Gauge makes some direct fit replacements. I could be wrong though.

Anybody have experience with PTG in an H-S stock? Maybe I'll shoot them an email...

Edit: quick googleing reveals that some inletting may be required on the H-S stock (from a Midway review...).

I have the tactical bdl style for rem 700 sa. No inletting, very good product would buy again,, also have a sunny hill, williams and badger m4 on a few rifles. On any new I will be using PTG for ease of install, $ and value.
See above post here for $75 dbm as Mr. Kiff has a new LA version that is a bdl drop in ...
Good luck

PTG offers several options. Williams makes a good drop in bottom metal, just make sure you have the newer version. Dakota Arms makes a nice hinged floorplate as well. If you look around you may be able to pick up one of the above mentioned floor plates used, they don't really wear out and you may find a good deal. I got a great deal on a Williams M40A1 "Type" bottom metal here on the hide. This model did require a change in inlet thought but the quality is very good. I bought a Dakota Arms M24 bottom metal directly from from Dakota Arms. The quality was nothing less than stellar. This model fit my PST024 stock, but would require inletting for a normal BDL inlet but they make one for a BDL inlet that requires little or know inletting. I have a PTG on one of my rifles and have no compliants. I think PTG offers the best selection and bang for the buck.

All that being said, I don't have a big issue with the stock Remington bottom metal. The other models I mentioned are certainly beefier, I have yet to have any issues with the stock bottom metal. If you really don't like it though, inletting your stock for another bottom metal is not very expensive, so why limit yourself to what will fit your current inlet. Get something you really like, not just what fits your current inlet on your stock.

This is basically the conclusion I came to. The reason I don't like it is because it feel really out of place on an otherwise very nice gun. I can definitely live with it, was just hoping there was something nicer that would drop it till I wanted to get a nice detachable mag system. Thanks for the replies everybody!

i am unsure where to post this so i did a search and found this was a pretty recent so i figure i would try here...i am in search of factory bottom metal but didnt want to buy it new.. where would i post a want to buy add for some bdl bottom metal for cheaper than new.. thanks in advance

Crazy thought...HS stock....try HS bottom metal.

That's what I did on the exact rifle OP is talking about. As you might expect, it fits perfectly. 2 minute upgrade. The finish on the mag floor plate even matches the color and texture of the stock.
