I can get most anything at dealer cost. I am a ffl. Im thinking of getting a flir ps32 for thermal target id and a ps22 clip on for taking the shot. Ive heard mostly good things about the ps32 and mixed reviews on the ps22 being hit and miss. Would you go this way or would you put the $4k into one unit. Like a thermal head set with laser for the shot. Thanks to all

What are your goals? Most like to detect with thermal and identify and destroy with NV and an infrared lAser. For $4k you can get a cheap pvs-14 and a flir ps-22 to detect. There are some cheap thermal scopes being discussed in here lately that may suit your needs as well.

There is more than a couple ways to skin this cat.

I won't go into a whole bunch of detail because I'm not sure what it is you are truly needing for example.

Why are you looking at a clip on unit (PS22) , is the gun your daytime and nighttime hunter and you are really really set on the day optic choice your running.

Do you have more than one gun at your disposal? If so then you can just go the way of a dedicated night hunting gun with better equipment for less $$$ so long as you don't have to buy the base gun.

What range do you plan on shooting at?

The FLIR is limited in its identification (ID) range, you might find that you detect from a good distance but use your NV for final ID based on the amount of magnification on that system.

Anyways.....

Get a FLIR for detection

And a Pulsar N750 for shooting

Stick the extra 1k you have left over in your pocket for when you save up for a thermal weapon sight.

Yeah I can go either way I have plenty of guns that I can dedicate one to night vision. But i have a few scopes i could use a clip on device on. I can go either way but if the dedicated unit is better for cheaper I will go that way. Most likely with my colt ar

I think getting a pvs-14' a helmet and a laser will max out your budget, and will do anything you need. There is a learning curve with night vision so if you did have extra coin left, spend it on ammo and get proficient with it. You would then be more successful than extra gadgetry could make you. I'm not a huge fan of digital night vision, as an auxiliary illuminator is neccissary.

I am a huge fan of K-I-S-S , and digital is cheap. If the shooter can zero the gun and knows the range of engagement it will be effective.

No need to wear it, mark it, laser it, beam it, schwing it, just shoot it !

I am being a bit tounge in cheek here, I hope you know :)

Now how am I supposed to look all hi-speed without a helmet, laser, NV, and all that stuff!?!?

If you are hunting over bait, or know exactly where your query is going to be, weapons mounted is tops, and digital works fine. If I have to walk in, scan the area, or navigate, I prefer the head mounted options.

With all the extra money he is saving by going dedicated digital he can afford to buy a nightvision range finder............ ;)

Well I ordered a ps32. I showed a customer vids of one today and they wanted one so its a no lose situation. I will get to try it out

That's a fine choice. I'm happy that you are not sticking to your budget, and are not skimping just to get by. As we all know, we get what we pay for. When it comes time to resell you got to remember G.I.G.O. (I love acronym threads)

Well i took it out tonight and within two mins i spotted a pack of hogs from about 250yds I was in my truck just testing it out. Didnt have a gun night ready but they were on the land next to mine at the entrance to my gate. so it does not matter. Tomorrow im getting my nd5 mounted on my new ar. Until i get a clip on nv it should get me by

boomer, where you located? me and a group of guys that have our own gear would love to come give you a hand in eradicating hogs if your not too far...

well , i am new here too

$4000 is absolutly enough for an ITT AN/PVS 14 ,with a MX11769 Pinnacle tube,it's clear and bright enough for a night operation, and also make you be able to see IR laser at night, you also can buy an EOTech XPS to add in frount of your pvs14 to make it to be a night vision sight.

but $4000 for a thermal devise...man,please do not think about it.with this reserve, you can only get some 160x120 resolution or 7hz frape rate rubbish thermal scope, trust me it will make you woozie.at least you need a insight MTM,it's 320x240@60hz and got a bilud-in IR laser! it's around 5000 on ebay,or a ATN THOR 1x 320x240 @30hz ,at least they are VOX microbolomer thermals
