The website is up and applications are out for previous shooters and they will be out for new shooters at the first of Spetember.

A few things up front from some questions already.
*Water will be provided the entire match for the tough man and extreme tough man.
*The tough man and extreme tough man will be .223/5.56 or 308 only.
*You will have to take all your gear except tent and sleeping bag(liner, mat, etc.) with you the first day. The second day you can leave gear in the camping area if you wish. All gear must come back with you Sunday morning except the tent and sleeping. The campsite will not be guarded during the day but no one will be anywhere around it.
*There will be 2 separate prize tables. One for the open class and one for the tough man/ extreme. The top 3 teams in the extreme will get additional prizes as stated in the website.
*The top 308 in the open division will get an additional prize also.

If you sign up for the tough man or the extreme tough man you are competing for the same prize table.
We will have a small prize table set aside for the teams that fall out of the tough man/ extreme. You will not be able to go to the open class because they will be shooting some different stages. You will still be required to shoot with the squad you started with.

The tough man/ extreme will be graded as a team.

The open class will be graded as an individual, but you are more than welcome to shoot as a team or have a spotter. No one can spot for more than one shooter.

We hope to see everyone there. We are already have a ton of sponsors and Marcus is getting more everyday.

This event is absolutely awesome. If you are doing the ETM, better practice with your gear and ruck ruck ruck. Last year the guys from Southwest Ammo were in our squad and I have been using their new SWA brass 175gr 308 round. Great guys and great ammo, hope they come back this year. Look forward to seeing the rest of the squad.

That's too bad. I wanted to compete in this division, but do not have a .308!
 
Got word that Michael Bane with the Shooting Gallery will be filming the match for their television show.
 
A buddy and I are thinking of making the trip, but I had a few questions.

I am considering a match barrel for my AR in 223 vs my 308 bolt gun.


What would the hardest shots be for secondary shooter? Like what size target at what distance?

Are muzzle brakes allowed?

This info is based on my experience shooting last year - muzzle brakes were everywhere and LOUD. Secondary shooter targets were from 200 to mid 500's. All targets for this match are tiny. teeny teeny tiny. We walked by plates no bigger than your hand on the way to a shooting stage that were hardly bigger than the angle iron they were mounted on - only to realize that they were the actual secondary targets to be engaged from 250 to 400 yards. I thought they were underground cable markers or something. This event is STUPID difficult. Had an 1100 yard primary target on that stage IIRC

I'm in the same boat this year, the OBR I have on order will most likely not make it in time leaving me with a precision upper on my AR (which I used last year) or my bolt .308. A gun that shoots sub MOA is an absolute must IMO. I sold the upper from last year and have a 16" Noveske that I haven't tested yet. It will have to shoot damned tight or I will be toting my 27" bbl 40XB

You should cancel that OBR and order a JP LRP-07. It would be here in time and be more accurate

Based on what you said. Do you think I will be fine if I practice with 1 MOA targets up to 600 yds? (4" at 400, 5" at 500, 6" at 600)

I would go read the 2014 description. Unless you are shooting ETM or TM there is no "secondary" gun and you are competing as an individual. Practicing on MOA targets should be perfect for practice.
 
I am planning on ETM with a buddy. He will be primary. Trying to decide on a barrel for my AR. (Contour, length, etc.)

I have read the Match Details and Rules on the Mammoth site and I see no distances or size of targets mentioned.

Jcrist pretty much has the best info. You likely won't see distances or sizes published. Not joe's style. If you practice 1moa out to 600 or so you will be fine. Make sure you practice your "really shitty barricade" drills
 
We will send out confirmations starting next week.

The target sizes are listed on the website under stages.
 
That is my routine, 1MOA. You really should read my AAR listed on the first page of this thread. It gives a decent account of what you will face from a rookie's perspective. For example, I will be shooting from the prone while decided which gun to use. After that, I won't be spending much time and ammo from that position.

Considering it. I have 2 builds saved - a .260 and a .308. Glad I didn't go with the .260, I'd be screwed for ETM. Without stirring up a bunch of shit, I'd love to see some data on groups/accuracy of the 18" version. Would help make my decision.

Mine is 20 or 22 but in both the 260 and 308 I have shot several .3" five shot groups. If you are ever in Birmingham, AL you are welcome to shoot it.

BMW CCA and NASA. Great track! I've got some great video from BMW O'Fest there in 2011. Know Bert Howerton? He works at VIR and does Grand Am, Ferrari Challenge and other stuff I think. Glad to run into some fellow racers.

I'll be bringing my own "spirits" this year, last year I bummed pulls off the JD bottle from the 5th Group SF boys. They were very generous and I hope they return this year

I am indeed. 5th group should be there in some capacity. I'm not sure which division I will be shooting but I hope to make it down there and sneak some smokes. We will see what all joe has planned.

Shhhhhh, teams aren't supposed to help each other. Good thing Joe didn't find out you were getting pulls of JD from the Group guys or you might have been DQ'd:)

On another note, I have both the OBR and JP in 308. The JP blows the OBR out of the water both in accuracy and reliability. My OBR went back to LaRue twice before it would function reliably - YMMV.
 
H2H has it right. The LRP is aguably the best large frame AR on the planet plus its 2.5-4 lbs lighter than anyting else out there. 2.5lbs doesn't sound like much until you are huympimg it up and down hills in KY. Last 2 years I ran a 16" LRP-07 LW contour and it was perfect. It's very light and allowed me to carry extra stuff like a spotting scope. For anyone shooting this match a spotting scope will increase your primary shooters hit count significantly.

I can't wait to shoot this one!

My shooting partner and I have decided to help sponsor the event as well. BEST TARGETS has donated several AR500 plates for the prize tables, and we will also be delivering steel targets to the event for anyone who pre-orders plates. How were receipt of payment acknowledgements going out? Haven't seen anything..
 
Emails were sent out upon receiving registrations. They were sent to the email on the registration form. If you did not get one then the email was not in the form or we could not read it. If you have any questions email [email protected]
 
Is it ok for both the primary and secondary shooters on the same team to use .308 bolt guns or does one have to be .308 and the other .223/5.56? Also, will there be provisions for charging electronic equipment (cell phones, etc...) or do we need to pack solar chargers or the like?

Phone charging is for the Open division. ETM is in the wilderness of the park, leave Friday - come back Sunday. Sounds like a good time to bring up the 33% attrition rate last year ;)
