Hi guys,
I'm in the process of building my first bolt gun. I'm going with a Remington 700 5R, I've been shoveling through this forums and others trying to get the best bang for buck setup I can get. I was wondering if this setup would work:

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/731389/tps-30mm-tsr-sl-picatinny-style-steel-rings-matte-super-low
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/55...st-focal-illuminated-ebr-1-mrad-reticle-matte
http://swfa.com/TPS-XP-Tactical-1-Piece-Base-P42035.aspx

For the optic, MRAD would be a better choice than MOA for someone new right?
If anyone is selling any of these items, feel free to shoot me a PM, I'm trying to save whatever money I can so I can buy a house in the future. Thank you guys in advance, I really appreciate it.

Regards,
Nevertipsy

Links are not working for me. As far as MOA vs Mil, there is no "better" system, it is preference, I prefer mils. The most important thing is to make sure your turrets and reticle match. As far as rings and bases go, I always go with Seekins Precision for both, light weight aluminum, great design and fit/finish and the price is right.

Edited the links, still pending approval, sorry for the inconvenience.

Rifle is a Remington 700 5R, in .308

Its a Vortex PST 6-24x50mm Scope
TPS super low 30mm Rings
and a TPS 20moa base.

I'm worried that the super low rings will not allow enough clearance, some people said it will be fine, others not as much, the measurement on the rings is... .820 height. Thanks for advising!

I think the original post had it, but cant be seen, I added it to the above post, its a Remington 700 5R chambered in .308

Got it, new members must need to have mods approve links and/or link edits. I would opt for the low .925 TPS rings, the super lows would be tight. They may fit, but even if they do you will most likely not be able to get any sort of scope caps to clear the barrel.

I dont see the brand seekins on midway USA. are they expensive? I'm kind of on a budget ^^; I'm aiming bang for buck all the way.

Between burris xtreme lows, the SWFA lows, and the TPS lows (steel or aluminum), what is recommended for best bang for buck?

I recommend against going "budget" on your base/rings. Barrels change, triggers change, stocks change...but with the exception of a new tube diameter, if you pick your rings and even moreso your base wisely, there will be minimal repurchasing. Spending $88 for tps rings would be silly when you can pick up a used set of Seekins in the Hide classifieds for at most $100.

Don't know about the base heights, but a Badger 20 MOA base and 0.823" high rings worked just fine mounting a Mk 4 6.5-20 x 50 on my 5R mil spec 308. Enough room for the BC caps.

This what Badger calls their "standard" height ring. Names don't always mean the same thing for different manufacturers so you really need to look at the numbers.

Been doing my homework, Thanks a bunch Oldfatguy haha, do you know if .80 will work? I found out that TPS lows are .925, SWFA lows are .80, and Burris Xtremes lows are also .80

P.S. TPS super lows are .82 which appear to be the same height as your badgers.

Rings are measured different as well. Some to the middle of the mount and some to the bottom..where your scope tube would sit.

Nothing wrong with TPS rings.
If I'm buying new and have the opportunity, I buy Seekins, but I've used TPS, and there's nothing wrong with them.

I have Burris XTR Low rings on my Vortex Viper PST 6-24x on a Rem 700, 20 MOA base. The rifle has one of the heavy barrel profiles (PSS/PS-1).

Someone said the Burris are 0.8", so 0.82" should be perfect.

Ah Bugger, I called SWFA since they have TPS kits for sale, the TPS 20MOA base is sold out, TPS is apparently backed up for months. ~_~
