I hope that's not correct. Without Christian Bale, it's not going to have any ties to something "real" as far as movies go. They are going to spend a good chunk of the movie explaining his origin instead of developing the story from the get go. It'd be like having a different Ironman in the avengers.

Doesn't make it a lot better, but the article I read said he's cast as Batman for the second Man of Steel movie, not a continuation of Nolan's Batman series...it said Nolan wasn't doing a "fourth movie in the franchise", but I don't see that ruling out a Robin movie w/Levitt though that continues that particular story arc (unless DC is going the Marvel route and going to start integrating all their movies)

100% agreed. I was never a Batman movie fan, until I watched Batman Begins. I think it is still the best "super hero movie" as far as having a realistic feel, and being semi plausible, followed by Ironman. Ben Affleck will just look like an idiot trying hard to be a tough guy IMO.
There are some rumors you hear about new Batman movies that sound like good rumors, like the one about Johnny Depp playing the Riddler, then there are others, like this one, that make you wonder if some person in charge of this would like the idea of playing a game where the goal would be pointing a pistol at his own face, and seeing how many times he could pull the trigger.

He isn't Batman in the new Batman movie he's Batman in the new Man of Steel movie is what i thought.
Everybody bitched about Hugh Jackman and look what happened. I can't imagine any other Wolverine. Everybody bitched about Heath Ledger and look what happened. Best Joker yet. People bitched when Don Cheadle replaced Terrence Howard in Iron Man and he turned out to be better. Ben Affleck's days of Gigli and Daredevil are in the past. He's a better actor now, nothing like a Daniel Day, Deniro or Tom Hanks, but he's gotten better. He won numerous awards for Argo and was not too shabby in The Town. I bet he'll be pretty good at it.
Yup, this often happens with people bitching about casting decisions. I remember how Ironman fans had an intergalactic freakout about Robert Downey Jr being cast as Stark and now look him? He made that role like Bale, where no one can imagine anyone else playing him. Bale was offered a stupid amount of money to come back to the role but he baulked.
Most ppl know the Affleck Batman will be for Man of Steel 2, not another Christopher Nolan film so stop with that shit.
My point was MoS 2 will have to have part of the movie about the "new" Batman's origin THUS taking away from the Batman/Superman movie. If they don't do it just right, say good by to any Justice League movies and to a shit ton of money. My guess is, they'll need 2 1/2 hrs to fit everything in. Good luck with that.

I thought his performance in The Town was okay when I first saw it, and then I saw it recently, and it just seems to suck with age. For a time after he entered the public spotlight, every single acting role he had, he would always cry in it, and it wasn't even broad or unique, it was the exact same way of crying, and wailing. It never changed. Watch Armageddon and Pearl Harbor.

The true The Batman is lost forever. What is portrayed today is not Batman; he was bent on vengeance inflicting pain and hurt, evil, broke the law, dark, foreboding, not quite the techno-gadgets but using science with his super intelligence, and very athletic with a physical stature.
Clint Eastwood would have been my choice in his prime, tall, lean with his evil stare. I know of no one today and the current actor is an insult to classic Batman.
Most comic book movies have no real connection to the comic because the director and actors have no idea what the real comic is about. It all about hollywoodland hype. Batman movies are the worse by a wide margin.

Not all! Growing up I only looked at the Sue Storm character as a set of T&A, nothing more. And Hollywood gave us Jessica Alba in that roll.
Wrong - it's because films are sold to a MUCH wider audience than comic books. Most comic book material is difficult to translate to film, especially stuff that's likely to turn off most of the population with the exception of some niche comic book fans and because movies are umpteen million times more expensive to risk making, they try to mold the comic into someone people will pay to see. It's not because they don't get it; it's because it's a numbers game. On the flipside, there are some excellent film adaptations from comics such as "Kick Ass" and "Road to Perdition" but I think it's too much of a financial gamble in most cases so network TV makes more sense with some material like "The Walking Dead" for example.
ETA: a LOT of people here on this precision rifle forum like to think they know how film making is done and how Hollywood works, but step back a second a try to realistically determine if you're actually a subject matter expert or just a guy with an opinion.

Well Dogtown you are probably right about the numbers game vis-a-vie being just like the comic books. No argument here; I get that. But I don't think anyone other than a few women are going to be seeing this movie to see Ben Afleck play Batman. Like someone said above, Johnny Depp didn't bring them in to see the Lone Ranger.
I would argue that these days people flock to big effects films, not so much actor-driven films. In fact, look at the list of highest grossing films of all time and you see mostly films that feature visual effects heavily.
I didn't look, but I bet Ben Affleck wasn't in any of them.
Along with that, Hollywood has bombed some major films because even with big actors and computer wizardry, it does not guarantee a hit movie.
Correct. In fact, the biggest profits have come from cheap horror films that pack theaters. It's like the old Cannon action films of the 80s that are made cheap but do well at the box office and on video. Of course the industry is saturated with these films, so most movie studios are basically using them to diversify their investment in films for the year.
With genuine respect for other views, I simply go to the movies to be entertained. Not educated, not affirmed, not pandered to.
I tend to favor action over the intellectual, visual impact over the emotional. I like the film from the 40's, and I get a lot of enjoyment out of Sci-Fi.

Absolutely I do not get hollywoodland or what it takes to produce a movie and yes I still live in a free nation and have my opinion. for now it is still my hard earned coin that I spend where I want. I too like movies for escape enjoyment whatever but I prefer movies that engross me into them and make me think. Maybe I am wrong but I just do not see good movies these days, its all about FX but I understand this, look at people attached to their cell phones, pads, etc so they like all the eye sensory, I do not.
I hate all the remakes or do overs. Is there new stuff, some but not that much.
I hate placing a well known actor into the movie just because who they are, not that they can act or develop the character. Was it done in the past when actors has contracts with a studio, yes but I still think they were better actors at developing the character instead of who I am.
And I agree its hard to bring to life comic books but I totally disagree about batman. I believe if the director / producer put to screen batman with an actor that can be batman, the 14=35 age male would love the violence, vengeance, ruthlessness, darkness, athletic prowess with intelligence at problem solving would not only meet the new generation but old school comic guys too. Now add some techno wizz but batman was a scientist and used this to solve crimes more than gadgets, think Sherlock Holmes. The best scene to date for batman was when he dropped the bad buy off the roof, I thought, here we go then a huge let down.
Hollywoodland did an OK job with most comic book to movies but batman. Those movies in the 80s 90s were horrible and the bat just cannot get it done right. I feel with all batman movies, the villain is developed more than the bat.
