So I have two rifles, a GA Precision built Remington 700 and a Winchester Stealth (push feed bolt). Both are .308. I've been thinking about making one of them a switch barrel. I'm almost thinking that the Winchester would be easier to make into a switch barrel, because it has the integral lug. I know the Remington will need to have the lug pinned. What would be the pros and cons to each system? The other option would be to sell both and just order a new rifle. What do you all think?

In my opinion, there's no substantial difference once the recoil lug is pinned on the Remington. You're looking at a few more $ to have one pinned, that's about it. I have a Remington that is pinned and is a switch barrel set-up, but if I had a Winchester at the time, I would've gone that route. I would think a Winchester switch barrel .308/ .243 would treat you really well ;). Which way are you leaning?

I'm not sure which way to go.

The GAP rifle is of course very nice, but the Winchester is a nice "handy" rifle.

I was thinking about putting a 6mm Creedmoor barrel on one of them, because I have a GAP 10 in 6mm Creedmoor and thought it would be nice to have a bolt gun in the same caliber.

I've also thought about selling both of them and buying another GAP in 6mm Creedmoor. They've got several listed on their web site right now.

Hmmmm. Your options are pretty open then. If you had a 6 Creedmoor gas gun, would a guy need the same in a bolt gun? How about a 6.5 Creedmoor or 260?

The reason why I would have the same caliber is because I hate having too many different calibers, it means I have to buy more dies and different bullets. Maybe he is in the same boat. Good die sets aren't cheap and it could mean the difference of me buying 1000 bullets or another die set when you are on a budget. I would rather buy bullets than dies, I like to shoot.

I'm really open to almost anything. My thinking behind the 6mm Creedmoor is that I like the round and yes I'm already set up for it. It would also be nice to get a couple hundred fps out of the cartridge that the bolt gun would be able to give me.

My main concern was which platform would work best for a "switch barrel". It looks like it really doesn't matter.

If your not in a hurry I'd wait until LRI does the Winchester group buy. Have him true up the winny and chamber two barrels for it. With the winny you can run long cartridges without any hassle.
