So using a 22 suppressor on my Walther I noticed that there's some serious amount of blowback. What I mean is that every shot I have powder or whatever it is hit my face. I'm not talking about enough to leave a mark, but definitely enough that I feel it and it makes me flinch. My fiance doesn't even want to shoot it with the suppressor because of it.

Both the gun and suppressor are clean. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

It's normal for a blowback .22. The can is causing the slide to open sooner. Try standard velocity ammo if you haven't already.

Delta speaks the truth. My Walter loved mini-mags until I got a Sparrow. Then I had the same problem and switched to CCI SV. Not nearly as bad.

Honestly I don't ever notice the blowback on any of my 22 hosts through my Spectre II. The only one I really get blasted by is from my FNX 45 when shot wet through my Osprey. Have you tried several different types of ammo?

I noticed it with the Walther, but not with my 22/45.

That may be half of my problem, I rarely shoot the Walther anymore as the 22/45 is just too hard to put down when the can is attached. Maybe I will take the Walther out this week and see if I notice a bunch of blowback.

I ended up selling my Walther after I found I was shooting exclusively with the 22/45. :D Agreed the 22/45 is too hard to put down...I had just gotten the Walther first because it looked more like my other handguns. But the 22/45 is just plain better. Live and learn.

Can you guys recommend a model of the ruger that's already prethreaded and has the longer accurate barrel

Well, I just went with the factory threaded 22/45. With the picatinny rail. Threw a red dot on it and shot to my heart's content. However, Pac-lite sells 6" barrels pre-threaded if you want.

I shot my Ruger 22/45 yesterday with a Bushnell TRS-25 at a silhouette at 200 yards and hit it. Once out of about 5 or 6 shots, but I was pretty happy with it. Using CCI SV. No can on it......yet. Waiting on ATF. Hoping for October.

Like RFtinkerer said, pick up the pre-threaded factory model with the rail already attached and enjoy. I have a Burris FastFire on top and the thing is silly accurate. The only downside is the mags do get a bit sticky from the crap being blown back into the action. However, as I'm sure you are aware, 22 suppressed is filthy.

Give the Browning Buckmark a look. The way the slide is open on both sides seems to let more of the crud out than push it into the action. I don't notice any hot reside on my hands or face. It seems to be a bit cleaner than my Sig Mosquito after a box or two of shells....this is with a Silencerco Sparrow.

Are you wearing glasses? Blowback is part of shooting suppressed, there are ways to minimize it, but it's always there to some extent.

If your girlfriend is really susceptible to it, you might try a full face shield like folks who run grinders or weedeaters use. I have one for the shop, but I'm not sure how good the sights are going to look through it, as it's plastic and not perfectly clear.

I got a 22/45 lite this week and absolutely no blowback... So it's more of a weapon flaw that a universal truth...
