Hey Guys! A couple days ago I went out and did some of my best shooting ever, at 2060 yards! I was shooting my savage 110 BA chambered in 338 Lapua with 300gr Berger OTM's at a steel torso target. Out of a total of 18 rounds fired I landed 4 solid hits. I probably would have done better but I had no idea I was hitting the target so a few times I dialed off after hitting. Time to get a better spotting scope now! Made a short video of the shoot, hope you enjoy!

Great vid. Thanks for posting. Forget the spotting scope; build yourself a target cam instead. Cheaper and better for your purpose. At that range you'd have plenty of time to look over at the screen before impact.

I thought the same thing about the target camera before I watched the video, but the guy clearly has target cam, but I guess he needs to broadcast it back ;)

That's for sure, A target cam setup would be nice for these distances.
 
Great video and shooting yes a target cam can be very helpful at those long ranges.
 
It gets very addictive shooting ELR or dabbling into the area of ULR, but with the ever developing industry we have folks that will exceed what folks said couldn’t be done, yet achieve this level with repetitive accuracy within reason.


I have stretched the 338LM out to the zone of being unrealistic (to some) as shown here in the excess of 2000 yards. With that said I am looking forward to my next project and build to test the 3000 zone as well as closer ranges with a build from Dave Viers a 375 VM2 this will be a blast seeing how far and how tight the groups or hits can be had. I have a few months to be patient, but its well worth the wait. I plan on running 414s or 377s

Thanks Diego no problem, I use 90gr H1000 with federal 215 primers in lapua brass. I also seat the bullets .025" off the lands. I was able to work on the inside of the mag to make room for the longer bullets so I can still mag feed these rounds.

Good shooting, always like your videos. Check out my buddy MDslammer's vids, he is also a SH member and has the same rifle as you. He is a good shot and is very knowledgeable in that filming stuff, you guys should get along. He has videos on Youtube and Vimeo, cool stuff too.

I'm very impressed how hard those things are ringing steel. Its too bad I'd have to hit the ocean to get any distance like that on the east coast.

My buddy Ombre Noire told me about your video. Nice job shooting your BA110 .338LM at 2060 yds. Good job on the video as well.
I've been shooting the same stick for about 2 years now and have the NF 5.5-22x50 MOA glass on her. Your load is very close to mine.
I load with 90.5 gr. H-1000 and seat the bullet at 3.681. Mine seems to like it better than closer to the lands.

I will tell you that shooting 1 mile and then some, my spotting scope wasn't very effective. So I build a target cam system that is the bomb.
I've tested it out to 1.5 miles and it works beautifully. Seeing the hits on target in real time and knowing exactly where impact was, is very helpful.

Hey thanks, the stand is an old saw horse made from thin sheet metal. It took a couple shots from the mosin nagant and I hit it once at a mile with the 338 lapua, it took it like a champ (lol I just got lucky I didn't hit the leg attachments)!

I used MDslammer's target cam system, that's the way to go for ELR. When you set the monitor right next to you, no need for a spotter, it is just like watching TV, except you made the shot. 3 or 4 seconds later, you will see your POI in close up on the screen, can't beat that.

For those looking to build a target cam, keep in mind, mdslammer's setup is VERY nice. So, don't be turned off by the cost. I think I built my whole system for less than the cost of his Tx/Rx. Although, his HD video does look amazing.

Look on eBay for:
Tx/Rx - I just found a 3W, 2.4 gHz model for $85. Mine is 2W. Even that might be overkill with a couple directional antennae.
Yagi/Flat panel antenna - 14-25dbi for less than $20 each
Digital Prizm or Haier 7" LCD tv - Around $50 and they have their own power source
Cheap, used camcorder

I used a couple low-discharge, 2620 mAh, RC lipoly batteries from Rhino for power. Hobby King has them for $15/each.
Already had the tripod.

All told, I think I spent around $250. Subtract $80 if you already have a tripod and camcorder.

What was that, 4 out of 7 hits on an 18x24 target? At 1.17 miles no less...
Dude, i just got done watching Bryan Litz struggle to hit a 36" round target at 1 mile even 50% of the time with a trg42 in light wind, so you should definitely be proud!
I sold my BA because i couldn't get it to shoot (and the whole heavy bolt lift deal). Your rifle is definitely the exception!

What part of scope is failing for you? Not enough magnification? Not clear enough?

The load I made for this rifle ended up being 90.0gr H-1000 and the 300gr bergers are seated .025 off the lands. I've chronoed this load at 2740fps at 70 degrees F. I'm at an altitude of over 7000 ft and this load goes subsonic at 2400 yards. Haven't had a chance to pay with the retumbo yet. Thanks

Well it's a tasco spotting scope 8-30x from the 80's, it works well out to about 1000 yards, can spot hits on steel out to 600 yards, but after that not so good. Combination of fuzzy, not so clear and low magnification. It performs well for what it is though, this thing is cheap, the box even says Made in Japon!
 
Grizz, only one word AWESOME!!! Great shooting!! mdslammer, Even guys like me, that have not got to were we can shoot Super Long range, that targeting system is the way to go!
Thanks to you guy's, it makes it easier to gain on our shooting.

Grizzdude...that's a great video!!!

I just saw this thread for the first time....and yeah, we'd be glad to help you out with one of our TargetCam setups. At that range you can actually look over and watch your bullet hit the target. I've tested our system out to over 3 miles with clear view of target.
