I see a lot of options out there. This will be my first bolt gun. Savage .308 with (I think) an MGW 20MOA Pic. Rail. Scope will be a Steiner Military 4-16x50.

For rings I have seen:

Spuhr
Badger
APA
Seekins

And many others. I know better than to ask which one people would select but is there a "preferred" brand out of those I listed or am I missing more?

ARC (American Rifle CO) Badger, USO, Seekins or vortex which is rebranded Seekins, or TPS. TPS is the cheapest probably, then vortex.

Hadnt heard of APA, but generally no one that makes 34mm makes bad rings....

You'll want lows.

Richard near (near mfg) makes good stuff. They are probably the most elegant rings i have seen. I like spuhr alot too. His are very versatile.

You looking for 1 piece or 2? Quick release or fixed? Hard to beat Seekins for a 2 piece set. My next rings I'd like to try the ARC M10 (contact euro optics for a great deal). I also have an American Defense which works very well and finally check out Bobro

APA hands down. They are a great design that is very strong. They are held to super tight tolerances and have no sharp edges to mar up your scope (like many other rings will no matter how careful you are). But the best thing about the APAs for me is they are elegant enough for a super high grade wood stocked hunting rifle. They are just plain sexy, the "chicks dig it" factor is high...

NEAR does make great stuff. If you want a one-piece rail in SS they're the best (impeccably-designed and executed and chamfered with radiuses' all around, no tool marks, and wonderfully-finished). His Alpha Mounts are very cool too. The only problem is that if you're looking for rings only, you'll have an extremely hard time finding what you want, as NEAR stopped making separate 34mm rings years ago. I managed to buy a pair of LN 34mm LOWs several years ago to use on my Kimber Model 82B. They're beautiful, but the edges aren't chamfered everywhere like his bases are.

Thanks, guys. Okay so I definitely want LOW not MEDIUM or HIGH? I'm guessing LOW means around 0.8"?
