just got this new gun 2 days ago, fired it for the first time last night and around the 15rnd mark it was failing to xtract so i checked the xtracter put a spent case in the bolt head it fit snug no movement on the casing at all so what would be the prob here im shooting hornady ammo

not sure, but have you checked grove in brech face of barrel to make sure no trash there to keep extractor from fully grabbing rim

New rifle, wouldn't surprise me at all if there were bits of metal left from the machining process
stuck in the bolt and receiver. I've seen it before, which is why I disassemble and fully clean
a new rifle before using. That includes taking apart the bolt to ensure no stray bits of metal
end up in inconvenient places. Make sure it's clean before trying again.

I've heard this complaint several times on the XT-22's (pretty sure its the same action, just 22 instead of 17). If thats not it, try it with a few different types of ammo. If its not just a particular brand of ammo, it could just be an issue with the gun. There have been *some* complains about quality control issues since Remington bought Marlin (just google around for remlin). While I think its gotten much better, the occasional one will slip by (just a reality of mass production). Marlin should take care of you if thats the case, my friend got a Marlin 45-70, had some issues, and they fixed him up.

talked to local gunsmith yesterday,
his statement, check brech face for firepin, dry fire, marks, he has ironed out 3 lately,
not saying you (81) dry fired,
but people that get there hands on them at the gun store, an some time new employies playing with new style trigger. gunsmith also said that 2 of them had a long firepin travle

I have a new savage 22 that was failing to extract lately. I cleaned the chamber and I don't have any more problems.

I've owned some rimfires with a soft or not quite sharp enough extractor. You may have already looked at that. Seams like schmutz in the works or not enough bite would be the issue.

i cleaned the crap out of the chamber with a nylon 22 cal brush and all is well
