    Preliminary testing:

    300-338 Lapua Magnum
    220 Grain Lapua OTM Scenar
    31" Bartlein

    3283fps

I'm still dickering around with powder. Trying hard to find 3400. . . Time will tell.
A 34" Xperimental barrel is due to arrive any time. It's a 20 TWIST 30 cal for the "mister mister" bulletz. 115-125 grain Vmax/Ballistic tips. 4500+ is the goal. We shall see. . .

Have not shot for accuracy as the stock just got bedded late Saturday night/Sunday. Was just working on the velocity goal/brass prep procedure here in the test cell.

James Oneill from Oneill Ops and I have a hunt planned for the winter to try this biche out on the wylie coyotes that litter his property.

    I hope its graphic!

will it get shipped out for carbon dating or will that be done in house, will I recieve a carbon dating diploma with the action?

Before I read anymore, I want a Letter of Authenticity, Rockwell verification, and tolerances at .000015 at 43 degrees Kelvin. You custom action builders are all the same......

I'm not an action maker although I have the 07FFL, ITAR, etc. This is a personal project. It begins/ends there. I have ZERO interest in engaging that part of the industry.

    I don't own a CMM either.

But I did go to didley lannn once. :0

That looks like fun! Thanks for sharing your project.

That sounds like a call for super slow stuff. I'd try H50BMG, or N570 to get the energy. Maybe with a soft primer if that lets you get more in there. If that doesn't fill the case before you see pressure then I'd suggest the surplus BMG powders like WC860 with hot primers. I'd be curious to hear what you come up with.

I take it that's indoors?!? What sort of ear protection does that take? :)

Bad Ass Chad. Very Bad Ass.

It should deal complete destruction on varmint critters. I've been shooting some 130 grain TSX out of a long barrel 10 twist 300 WM, inside 400 yards, it is devastating. That is only 3800 fps, can't imagine what another 700 fps will do. Good move, slowing down the twist, smart.

Bad to the bone though - love it. I'll send the deposit for action #2 if you change your mind.

Shit bring it over for the weekend and we can see what it does to prairie dogs. Should be interesting...

Chest beater! I kid, what a crafty guy. I have some H870, make a second action for me and I'll give you four pounds of it.

    Very cool Chad!

Barrel for long range hunting and one for Predator/Varminting!

    Nice action.

Quit last night around midnight. Floor metal is about 80%. I did this one in AL just to make it go quicker. Once I get the final design hammered out I'm thinking it'll have to be in steel.

    I loath aluminum on guns. . .

I had JGS make me a reamer for a modified .338 Lapua with a 30 deg shoulder and a bit less body taper necked down to .30 cal. I Used it on Coyotes with 150 gr Nosler BT's at 3850fps. Nice clean kills but a bit harder on pelts than my .20 Tactical. I plan on using my new .375 Cheytac on Coyotes this winter with the 260 gr Noslers. We call the fan shaped splatter snow cones.

Awesome work, Chad! The workmanship looks great, and I'd be very interested in any other details that you wish to share.

Unfortunately, you can't just show off a nice piece of metal-working nowadays; it just won't get the proper amount of attention. The following steps are highly recommended if you want this to blow up into a proper 10-page thread:

1A: Make highly-implausible claims about the dimensional tolerances held during manufacturing, "patent-pending" features, etc.
1B: Offer up little/no proof to back up those claims.
2: Call-out other gunsmiths in a manner that provides little doubt as to whom you are trash-talking, but also allows for plausible denial.
3: When other members step in to question your claims, quickly start insulting them. We all know that the best way to attract business is to insult potential customers.
    4. Arrange to have an independent 3rd party test the equipment, then make a series of excuses when the product fails to perform.

Optional: Get into a pissing match with at least one former employer.

These steps have been pretty well-tested in both the Bolt Action and Semi-Auto sections over the past several months.

    Well that is just silly.

Can't wait to see how fast you can push a 125. For the science, of course.

Yea a 125g at 4200fps would make a great load for harvesting baby seals or panda eradication.

Floormetal is done! Works flawlessly. Side push release. If I turn lefty just flip the button. Fully enclosed thetrigger bow. Just didnt look right open. Made a new piece Sunday that captivates more of the magazine. Trigger job and final fitting of 3pos safety went well. Crisp 2.5lbs.

Need to fit screws for the base (10-32!) and flute/engrave/brake the barrel yet.

Gotta start prepping brass too. Blech!

    Going well so far!

    Very cool project.

Since you have a working knowledge of making actions between this and your time at nesika/dakota I have a question that I hope you will answer. How do you cut the closing cam in the action where the raceway transitions into the lug seats?

    Thanks

Gonna fondle this bitch this Saturday when I swing by to drop of the .243 for a fresh tube. Can't wait to try it out on some prairie dogs....

Up date.... All I hear is bottom metal was side push release!!! I think chad and myself where split at birth??? Can't wait to see if
your Tikka metal is the same design..... Yes please.....

    Update.

2 weekend ago I finally got this bugger out to shoot a match. Came in dead last but I got a phone call today. At the better part of 500 yards this biche is putting 3/16" dents in AR 500 plate using a 125 grain ballistic tip. Velocities are well into the upper 4500s.

it's a freak. With a 200 yard zero I've got a 2.6mil come up to 1000 yards. 13 mph gusts needed less than a mil correction.

I didn't hit much as I kept over doping targets but the thing works.

103 grains of WMR gets it done. Going to mess with the throat a bit more and see if I can find 4600.

    fun chit.

told ya you would fuck up someone's steel

Yep you did. I entered the match and informed the director. We reached an agreement not to shoot the close up stuff. I forfeited a lot of tgts bit didn't care. Was fun just to get out with it. Folks had a good time trying to watch the trace. Spooky fast.

Yes! My cans just shipped this week from SRT. Buddy lent me his 338 TBAC at the match. Shooting this thing open muzzle just sucks. It's a handful and your (mine anyways) shoulder let's you know it after about ten rounds. I had a brake on the barrel setup for 220s. Took the snort out but it really rattled your sinus' s. Can is the only way to go. It's a totally different rifle once you ball gag it.

made an arbor and shaper tool. Using a rigid tapping cycle i stood the action up and "tapped" the cam surfaces a few .002 at a time. DONT do this on a newer machine with ceramic spindle bearings. You WILL destroy it and your credit score if you do.

Holy shit that is awesome. I have never really felt the need for a big gun but this is making me twitch and sweat a little.... ***4500fps*** please take it out for an afternoon on a prairie dog field but you have to get some really good high res video. Just out of curiosity, how much does it weigh as you have it set up?

    Chad,
Great fun! BTW, I have some SLOW powders if you need any. Just keep an eye on O'Neill at all times. :)

BTW, The 20-250 stuff should land today.

    Take care,

    RTH

19.75lbs as it sits in the photos.

The slower powders don't work. Retumbo, Br50, N570. RL33. Etc... All way way too slow. Pressure. No speed. 3600 was the best I found with rretumbo.

started playing with 48 31sc. 103 grains same thing. No speed. Just pressure.

RL22 was better. 4253 peak velocity.

WMR is the shizzle. Loves it. Good thing I have oodles.

Throat erosion determines this. I figure once I see it frosting up, I'll set it back enough to make it go away. Then hopefully it'll act like a new stick again.

We'll see. For me, having the tools, its a small price to buy a new barrel. Barrels are consumables from my chair. Kinda like tires/clutches on a drag car. Gotta pay to play.
