I know this has probably been asked a thousand times, but I was curious if there are any advantages to buying the Savage over the ArmaLite?

Personally, I've had shit luck with savage firearms in terms of accuracy (bought the woman a 7-08 that couldn't even hold 1 MOA. That's ridiculous. Yeah, it was only 650 dollars but for that amount, I would expect a hunting rifle to hold at least 1 MOA... come on....)

From experience with other ArmaLite products and Savage products, this is what I pretty much figure:

Savage has a better trigger than the AR30 with a lot more adjustment I imagine- So I would probably be doing a trigger job/replacement on the AR30.
Savage is about 1,000 cheaper, but honestly I don't care if its not worth a shit for accuracy-
ArmaLite overbuilds their rifles like a shit brickhouse-
ArmaLite claims 1/4 to 3/4 MOA accuracy, Savage has no published results on their page and I read varying results-
Savage has a 1:9 twist, ArmaLite has a 1:10 twist. 1:9 really seems like overkill for spin, and will wear the barrel faster- that's unnecessary.
I've read in several places the Savage is picky about brass and sticks in the chamber just for shits n' grins. That's unacceptable if true.

I load, so it will shoot 3 dollar bills instead of 5 dollar bills, but that doesn't matter either-
I am bitter against savage for the piece of shit they sold me last fall, so I have zero faith in their product from the start-
Weight is similar with the savage being slightly lighter, so it wins that category.

Any other thoughts?
Also, I cannot afford a Sako TRG42 right now, otherwise this wouldn't even be a discussion. I already have NF optics/bipod/monopod waiting from selling one of my gas guns.

You answered your own questions already with your Savage experience. I had an older AR30 and it was a fantastic rifle, much better than my friends Savage in 338lm. Mine shot 1/2-3/4 with my hand loads. I'd say one out of every 5 savages you will end up with a quality rifle. Armalite FTW!

I have a AR30A1. It is a .2 -.3 MOA rifle with me shooting it @ 100yard. I can shoot 3/4 MOA at 1000 yards. In the proper hands there is no telling what it would do. I have the trigger down to about 1.25 lbs and it is very crisp with no creep.

I like my 110 fcp hs a lot. It has shot as low as a .82" 5 shot group at 300 from a bipod, and is a pretty consistent .5 moa shooter at 300 with me on the trigger.

It eats lapua and ruag brass just fine. It doesnt like hornady brass but I see no reason to buy it anyway with lapua being available.

I would go with a Sako or AI if I were to step up from the 110 but for now I see no reason to. The ar30 looks interesting though, and if it shoots 1/2 moa then that would be something to consider.

Heres a little 4 group target at 300 I shot the other day. Shot them about as fast as I could with no barrel cool down. Not the greatest groups but gives you an idea of what to expect.

Let me start by saying I am not a Savage fan, any your experience is similar to mine. The choice between Armalite and Savage used to be easy when they were the same price, not that the armalite has doubled in price you have to ask yourself if that same experience you had and the possible loss of accuracy is worth the extra cash in your pocket. I tell people to buy armalites. I have an AR-50 and the trigger is excellent from a factory rifle and I see no reason to fiddle with it. and if this answers anything: I had a friend who recently bought a 110BA in 338 (after I told him to buy an AR-30) who printed some AWESOME 2" 5 shot groups at 100 yards with it. Very impressive!

I have the 110 FCP-HS. Pretty happy with it. I can shoot .5 moa with it out to 1000. I have a buddy that has a Savage in 243 and it's a tack driver as well. I'm not sure that I'd consider one bad experience an indictment on a company. But if you're that unhappy with Savage, then by all means go with the AR30.
