F T/R Competition Tennessee Long Range Championship

Some folks from my local F class range are going. Pascagoula Shooting Club. I think they are taking 4 -5 shooters

It's the weekend after Raton ends. I'm probably going but I've still got a case of the red-ass over having to pay $15 join the TnSSA in order to compete as a TN resident. It's not the $15, I spend more than that on Bergers every week, it's the idea of someone sticking his hand in my pocket and giving me nothing in return.

I've been researching TnSSA now for a few months and the only thing I can figure out is that it's a group predominantly from Nashville who are obviously members of the club sponsoring the shoot who are leaning on the match director(s) to require membership in order to get some cash. What they do with it is a mystery. The most recent update to their website is 4 yrs old, and the rest of it is over 5yrs. Their forum consists of 3 guys telling each other who shot what (and I'm betting they were probably at the matches together)

I've asked every shooter I shoot with here in TN if they've had any dealings with them and the unanimous answer is "NO".

I can find nothing that they have done for shooting in TN anywhere. The only positive I've found is that if you join they count as a qualifying organization to purchase from CMP.

I wonder if I join next week if they will reimburse my FCNC/WC entry fees? (anyone interested in a frosty beverage wager?)

I'm open to input from anyone to show that they do something useful for the state, but so far I have found nothing. (Expect a lot more from me on this topic in the coming months. If I do join I'll get extremely interested for what purposes my member dues are used )

XTR, I hear what you are saying and I also don't agree with this policy. However with that said it is a "Very" common practice in other shooting disciplines to have to belong to a State Association to shot the State Match. Never made sense to me but I guess it is just another way for them to draw money. As an example back when I was shooting BPCR Silhouette if you shot a match in a state other than the one you lived in, you also had to join there State Association.

I will be shooting one day of this match probably on Sunday, always a good match as is Oak Ridge.

I've read that complaint on the Shiloh forum about BPCR matches.

The guys at Tullahoma run a really good match. My gripe isn't with the people volunteering their time to run things, but with a state organization that as far as I can tell uses the money collected for bar tabs in Nashville. I'm not accusing anyone of that, but in 3 yrs of competitive shooting I've never seen or heard a peep from them other than to demand $$ to play for the state trophy this yr so I couldn't prove any different if someone asked me.

The coin is still spinning as to whether I register with my GA address and shoot for the over all and screw the TN trophy, or to become a member and as a member put on my compliance audit hat and try to see if I can find out just what they actually do with the $$. (the latter actually seems like more fun to me though according to the bylaws the Board doesn't seem to be responsible to the membership. All audits are only seen by the board and are not released to the membership)

With the exception of one guy listed in Oak Ridge, and one in Memphis the rest of the listed officers all live w/i 50 miles of Nashville. Maybe it should be the NSSA and not the TnSSA?

Wade - Thank you for considering taking over the running of this match if/when we switch it to Oak Ridge next year. If we can't get anyone from MidSouth Marksmen to run it at AEDC next year - you're it!

TN-1000 yd this weekrnd

Does anyone know the shooting surface at the Arnorl AFB -1000 yard line and if parking is close enough notr to bring a cart.

It was a nice well run match. Conditions were fairly mild wind wise but tricky/switchy at times and it was HOT saturday but sunday was cooler with rain in the a.m. Congrats to the winners CJ Britt (FTR) from Mississippi and Jeff Traylor (F-Open) not sure where Jeff was from. Both guys shot lights out with great overall scores.

Not good! Serious vertical issues with my load. This was the 1st time shooting that load at 1000, it shot great in load developement at 200 and 300 but it was throwing 8s straight up and down and occasionally a 7 every 5th or 6th shot while the guys shooting on the side of me were shooting waterline so i know it wasnt the conditions. Also, i lost 10 points on one shot as my bullet never got to the target and it wasn't a crossfire. Im guessing a defective bullet, maybe jacket seperation, who knows. Back to the drawing board, gotta figure out whats up with this load but we still had a good time meeting and shooting with some really nice folks. I'll be back next year.

Dang , sorry to hear that. But at least you had fun and learned about your load. You'll get it figured out. I can't believe you dropped a 10 because of a defective bullet. That REALLY sucks.

Not a good way to start a match. I was inadvertently knocked into a culvert first thing in the morning and badly injured my knee. Jade was first to respond THANK YOU
I want to thank all of you for helping me through the two days. Without the strong hands and attitude of all, there was no way for me to even start the match. It was very well run in every way. I'm off to the orthopedist. See you next year.
