Ok so I got a set of reddings type S bushing dies for SAAMI 280 AI (I'm using nosler brass). I measured it right at the mouth and got .309, just a touch below that was .308, and it was the same for 2 cartridges (I'm measuring some of nosler a custom competition 150gr E-tip ammo). So should I just get a .307, .306, or both? What are you guys using? Thanks!

I use the .309 with my set up. I run Nosler brass and Redding dies as well.
In order to determine correct bushing size, it is my understanding that you need to measure a case neck with the bullet you I tend to shoot seated, then subtract .001-.002. I went ahead and bought the .309 and .308 bushings and haven't had much luck with the .308. Good luck.

I have a range of different bushings so I can adjust for neck wall thickness and neck tension. Another method for determining neck bushing size is to multiply the neck wall thickness by 2 add the bullet diameter then subtract the desired tension. This is the method I use and requires a ball micrometer to measure neck wall thickness.

For Nosler 280 AI brass, the neck thickness is .013 and a loaded round measures .310 so you want a .308 or .309 bushing. For Norma 280 brass that has been fire formed to 280 AI the neck thickness is closer to .014 so you want a .310 or so bushing for that. I personally go with .002 tension and use a .308 for Nosler and .310 for Norma. Over time the necks will thin a little and the bushing that was putting .002 tension will continue to work.
