Hey all,

With Pennsylvania small game season approaching I figured I would finally post a picture of my little squirrel killer.

It's a Savage 93r17 sporting a Boyds Rimfire Hunter in forest camo. A nice gent on here made me some aluminum pillars that I installed and then bedded the action. The first time I used Acraglass and that stuff is terrible. So I took the Dremel to it and some sandpaper and started all over using JB Weld. Came out MUCH BETTER.

Optic is a Vortex Viper HS 4-16x50 with the BDC and works fantastic. The rings are a bit beefy, being those six-bolt Weaver tacticals, but it was all the local shop had when I picked up my scope and the scope is definitely not going anywhere.

I have another 17HMR from Savage that is a non-heavy barrel and seems to like the Hornady Vmax and wouldn't shoot the 20gr FMJ worth a shit. The Vmax are just too devastating on small game so I took a gamble and bought the above 93r17 FV and hit the jackpot. It shoots > 1/2" @ 50 yds using the FMJ's. Vmax from the heavy barrel are not quite as accurate as FMJ.

Only problem I am running into now is, after almost three freaking months of searching, I still have not yet located any CCI 20gr FMJ anywhere. Even from the local authorized CCI dealers. I have no bullets to shoot from my gun at this time.

Very cool:cool:
I agree with the acraglass... never again. Maybe it's something I did wrong, or didn't do correctly, but I was not impressed with that stuff either.

Yeah some swear by Acraglass, but I will never understand their arcane magic. You can't work with the stuff at all, since it just goes from soupy --> hot as shit --> hard. No in-between...

Glad you like the rifle!

JELLO, speaking of squirrels, we never did hook up for them. my bad, perhaps this year

they are having a squirrel contest up my way the 19th of oct.

Yeah every year shit just seems to come up. Contest for grey squirrels up near Scranton? That sounds interesting!

Now if I could find some ammo........

The "trick" with Acraglass is to use the gel version that comes in the green box. It's much, much easier to work with.

Acraglass was great when it was all we had. I have seen some great jobs done with it. Today, I would not choose it over products 50 years more advanced.
