Slide Fire - Have you tried one?

I just recently bought my first suppressor (actually several) and that got me thinking about picking up a FA m16 or similar evil nfa gun. Why not right? I checked a couple out at the local gun shop, but the owner recommended I try a slide fire first and see if I even wanted to spend the $15k on one and get on the govs shit list.

1. How close is this to a true FA weapon?
2. Will my titanium tbac suppressor melt if I do 20rd mag dumps or quick bursts?

I would like to say I knew but until I get sponsored by an ammo manufactuer the cost of either Slidefire or full auto is prohibitive.

Try running a search here of this topic as its been pretty thoroughly beaten to death (and gone all Lazarus and been beaten back to death a few times over).

If you want select-fire/FA capability...go through the hassle and expense and wait of getting "the real deal" as the Slide Fire AIN'T IT, but it is another great gimmick that lets your average shooting range idiots have a good time and waste a lot of ammo (not much of a waste actually as they probably weren't going to hit a target even without the stupid stock anyway)! Also, check out some of the reviews on BARFCOM as those stocks seem to draw a crowd over there.

As for your Ti suppressor...best to check with the mfg as not all Ti cans were created equally. You MAY be ok, but it generally is NOT a good idea to run some Ti cans through sustained, high rates of fire.

I highly recommend the Slide Fire stock. I also recommend the Shake Weight. These two items, along with a penis pump, will turn you into the man you always wanted to be.

There is an '81 m16 lower built up with larue parts for $18k that looked pretty nice. Wish I had the coin to buy it right now...

Some posts in the M16/AR15 section of Uzitalk, some full auto owners seemed to feel that, sure, it's not the same, but it's a reasonable substitute.
IDK, been thinking about getting one since watching Pigman and the Nuge open up on some feral hogs on full auto. Sure, it's not really F/A but I refuse to pay $15,000-$30,000 for a $1,500 gun just 'cause da guberment says we can't have any more. Ammo's expensive, but it won't be any cheaper with real full auto,so that's not really part of the Slidefire/M16 debate.

I have one and take it out on occasion. For the most part, it is for entertainment purposes only. Fun at night with tracers. Get a brass catcher. Saves a lot of hunting and picking up brass.

They do work great. Sure they are funny looking and gimmicky, but a good alternative if you want to waste ammo without spending 20 grand. I had one of the first generation stocks for a while and eventually invested in a full auto. I can put just as many rounds on target with the slide fire as with the select fire firing 3-5 round bursts, but it still doesn't feel real. Also could not get t beta mag to work reliably with the slide fire. The fugly first generation stocks should be showing up a lot cheaper now, as they are getting phased out. I just saw them in the distributor catalog today for $179, so they should be showing up for around $200. Try one yourself and see what you think.

The more I shoot my practical precision type rifles, the more I want guns that aren't. I think an M-16, and replacing the 50 BMG that I sold, will help me restore the balance in the gun safe. =)

The same can be accomplished with a thick rubber band around the mag well and behind the trigger. Personally when I want to burn through some ammo and cash I just rent a NFA toy from the local gun store. Get my FA auto fix.

That said, after the way a colleague of mine was treated when he went to work for SlideFire, I will *NEVER* even consider purchasing their product.

Let's just leave it at: The owner has a "neighborhood" where all his employees are required to live, and only the men are allowed to have careers. He even got pissed that the fella I know's wife would wear jeans. Apparently this wasn't "god's plan" for women. Said colleague eventually resigned his position and had armed personnel "assist" him in moving out.

I had one for a while, and was able to sell it for what I had in it, so I did. I just couldn't come up with a good reason for full auto, and the stock looks kinda goofy. That being said, It worked great for me. I used a 762-SD suppressor for the entire 400 rounds or so that I shot with the stock attached. I was able to do two and three round bursts as well as complete 30 round mag dumps. (I only did two of those) I found it very controllable and really fun to shoot. I could keep 6-10 round bursts on a paper plate at 30 yards. I thought that was pretty good.

It strikes me as akin to banging fat chicks and riding mopeds. They may get you where you want to go, they may be your only option, and they may even be fun once in a while, but chances are you don't want your friends to catch you riding one.

$15000 for an AR lower or $350 for an AR stock. I'd probably invest the difference in ammo and other projects, but that's just me. I might just avoid them both.

I have a buddy that has one, and they are for entertainment only. But they do fire fast. We had to but a heavier buffer in his to slow it down because trigger would not catch when it got going fast. They only serve one purposes, and that's to waste a lot of ammo, but its a hell of a lot of fun doing it. As far as the suppressor, mine stamp hasn't came in yet, so I can't say. They are ugly but a lot of fun. And the brass catch is highly recommend.

I had one, sold it. While it worked well, it was pretty much a noise maker as primary use. However, I did surprise a few hogs from the hip and it worked well. Some guys say gay, I say whatever floats your boat. If I ever get another, it will be a foski.

For an AR, get a Geissele 3G or 3GSD trigger and be happy with that for a lot less. More functional, legal and fun. It's fast too when you master it. Real fast. And accurate enough to hit shit, it isn't a bullet waster. It looks like a 2 stage, but works like a very fine, very crisp, short and light single stage instead.

I keep one in a separate lower for fun. I mostly like the SSA or SSA-E for fixed, Hi-Speed for adj.

I got my FA bug taken care of in the army. I never wanna carry or clean one again. We never shot M4's on auto, hardly ever, and the fun belt feeds are insanely expensive, more than the AR's. I did read there are more registered FNC auto sears than there are FNC rifles though, making them the cheapest by far to get into FA with a real deal modern rifle. $6000? I wanna say that was the cost. Maybe look there. DSA probably sells upgrades and parts for FNC's too.

Well I got one of the slide fires and was able to test it out today. Getting it to dump a magazine took all of about 10 seconds to master, it was holding the damn thing on target that was difficult. I'm going to have to try out the real FA weapons to see how they compare now.

As far as being stupid and gimmicky, yea, it is a little, but it's not all that bad. I've spent $300 on worse things than the slide fire lol.

Skykervet, I actually have both the Geisselle SSA-E and HS NM Match Rifle triggers. They are awesome to say the least.

True. But neither is the price, and you don't have to wait for the NFA permission slip or get in a bidding war over a 27 (at least) year old lower.
