First off do you all who have them like them?? Are they pretty sturdy?? What is the difference between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 folders?? I shot a fixed stock today, it was nice, but I like folders and I see some of the Gen 1 folders selling a lot less than the Gen 2s? Thanks Z

where are you finding these folders at? im kinda trying to talk myself into getting one.

Re: SAKO TRG FOLDER QUESTION??

I had one and it was fantastic. Both the fixed stock and the folder were comfortable for me, but the folder was more so. I loved the buttspike as well. If you have the cash, it is worth the extra, IMO.

I had a gen 1. Never handled a gen 2, but from what I hear they are only better.

Re: SAKO TRG FOLDER QUESTION??

KRG is coming out with an aftermarket folder that blows the TRG folder out of the water and is about 1/3 the price (my guess). So if you're interested in that, contact Massoud here on the Hide. Here's a pic of it.

Re: SAKO TRG FOLDER QUESTION??

Mike, how does the KRG stock "blow" the factory folder out of the water?

The KRG unit might be nice, but I would take the factory folder anyday over any aftermarket unit. And I did. I wouldn't have to add anything else to the stock like a monopod since it's built in. The adjustments are quick and it's rock solid.

Re: SAKO TRG FOLDER QUESTION??

So the Gen 2 has a mono pod and the Gen 1 a buttspike?? Is this right?? Any other diferrences?? Z

Re: SAKO TRG FOLDER QUESTION??

Also look as as if the Gen 2 has more sling attachment points. Here is a Gen 1 pic I found. Am I missing anything else?? What else did they improve?? Z

I'm sure they had to make structural improvements because the Gen 1 was POS.

Re: SAKO TRG FOLDER QUESTION??

Price aside, it's nowhere close to 3K as you are assuming. How is the KRG any better? More solid? How so? Have you broken a factory TRG folding stock? More adjustments? I have LOP, adjustable cheek height, a built in monopod. The KRG does not have all those without getting a Accushot monopod. How does it lock down better?

If it's not out yet, then how do you have one already? Personally, I like how the factory unit flows with the rifle. The KRG unit looks like they went a little crazy with the CNC machine to try to save weight. I do like the design better then some of the other stocks on the market though.

hey mike,

does that krg stock work with the factory chassis, or does it have to be used with the krg chassis?

that is a heavy duty looking unit.

You're right, I was $140 off. It's $2860. from here

http://www.eurooptic.com/sako-trg-folding-butt-stock-strfsg.aspx

Yes, I have broke a factory Gen 1 TRG stock. That's part of the reason I sold my original TRG back in the mid 90s. Sure, it was a Gen 1, but it still broke.

The KRG has the following adjustments: LOP, Cheek Height, Recoil pad height, Grip size (yes, the physical size of the grip) Locks both open and closed. Plus, the locks for the folder are more solid.

The way it locks the adjustments eliminates any play or movement in the adjustments so once the adjustments are locked, they're rock solid. This was something I made sure they addressed.

And so what about the Accushot. They're top notch monopods with a finer adjustment than the stock TRG. And it's possible the Monopod may be included with the stock. It's easy for KRG to buy monopods and include them with their stock.

How do I have one? Whose rifle do you think that is in the pics? I've been shooting one for over a year helping with development making improvements over the stock folder.

I don't care about how it looks. Aesthetics has really never been a point with me. I couldn't opine on the looks of one vs. the other.

Yes, it works with the factory chassis and only takes about 5-10 minutes with a couple of allen wrenches.

Re: SAKO TRG FOLDER QUESTION??

From my understanding, the Gen 1s are not sold anymore or imported anymore. At least that was my understanding when I got my folder from Euro Optic... and I didn't pay anywhere close to that price. TRG pricing in general is fucked. Sometimes I think they just make up the numbers. How the hell does the tan TRG22 folder cost 1000+ more then the green TRG22 folder? The stock isn't molded in with the color, it's painted.

Re: SAKO TRG FOLDER QUESTION??

I want to be clear that I'm not saying the TRG folder (2nd Gen) is a POS, far from the truth. I am saying there are (IMHO) better and much less expensive options.

I fully agree with you that Sako's pricing is about as ludicrous as can be. If there accessories were "normal" prices I think we'd easily see double digit growth in popularity of the Sakos.

Re: SAKO TRG FOLDER QUESTION??

I got to say that the KRG looks like it is built tank tough. Mike did the add any weight or take away from the standard Gen 2 folder??

Thanks for the pics guys. I guess the nice thing is with the KRG you can swap back to the standard stock if you like also.

Be safe all. Z

Re: SAKO TRG FOLDER QUESTION??

Gents,
Mike has been integral in the testing of the folder, we've already incorporated some good suggestions from him in the next generation of fixed Whiskey-3's that are due out within a month or so.

We started our folder since the TRG folder was so expensive. It bolts straight onto a TRG front half or you can bolt it onto a Whiskey-3 Chassis as well, or you could put the fixed backend from a Whiskey-3 on the TRG if you wanted to for some reason.

We've had guys ask about a monopod, here's our thoughts. The Accushot works and a lot of guys have them already. Some guys like the ski style on the new Sako folder. It seems to be good, but a lot of guys don't like a monopod and just want to use a bag so they end up paying for a ski monopod that they would take off the gun. There's attachment points on our stock so that we may offer a ski type monopod in the future but that will be quite a ways out. And yes we are looking at a price around 800 +/- 100 bucks or so. Thanks,
Justin

Re: SAKO TRG FOLDER QUESTION??

Thanks for the reply Massoud. Nothing like getting it straight from the source.

Next you all need to make a cheaper bipod for the TRG, the are nuts on the factory one but it is nice.

Be safe all. Heading out for a run in the heat. Z

Re: SAKO TRG FOLDER QUESTION??

Just to put in a plug w. Justin... I did some of the testing when he was doing the AIC magazine conversion. His parts are absolutely first rate and very well engineered. Creativity and quality are the watch-words w. KRG.

And I don't know how he sells his parts/kits for the price. It would seem to me that just the machining time would consume all the price... not to mention the finishing, overhead, etc. Everyone is getting a lot of free R&D!

Kinetic Research Group is putting out a lot of great stuff for us Sako shooters. And doing it w. a quality level that is commensurate with the Sako platform.

Support Justin and his team! He'es doing very good work and there are likely more cool ideas in the works.

Cheers,

Sirhr.

Re: SAKO TRG FOLDER QUESTION??

All I have to say is the KRG has to loose that Remington stamped recoil pad in the photos I have seen. That is blasphemy to put anything saying "Remington" on a TRG. It immediately caught my eye and detracted from an otherwise good looking stock.

Re: SAKO TRG FOLDER QUESTION??

Actually it looks bad but if their stock fit is set for the Remington 700 pad that is great as there are a huge number off pre fit pads out there. That being said the Remington R3 pad is just as good as a Limbsaver, so it is one of the best.

Still the name on it is bad, sadly a once great name. Z

Re: SAKO TRG FOLDER QUESTION??

Is there any ballpark for the release date of the KRG folder?

Re: SAKO TRG FOLDER QUESTION??

As as it stands the next stocks will have a Limbsaver pad on there. Actually though, the Remington pad has been well received. The idea for us is as mentioned, it takes a pre-fit Rem 700 pad. As for release, we're looking at 2-3 months out. Thanks,
Justin

Re: SAKO TRG FOLDER QUESTION??

Rem pre-fit makes absolute sense. It is just the Remington name stamped on the pad I didn't care for. You should stick a clean Limbsaver on it quick and retake the photos. Little things like this will affect sales I would imagine.

Re: SAKO TRG FOLDER QUESTION??

Sign me up! I just bought a TRG-42 in 300WM and im waiting for that KRG folder! Great stuff guys!

Re: SAKO TRG FOLDER QUESTION??

Is it just me or does anybody else look at the price of the folding stock option and think no way on earth is that work $3,000!!!!!!!!!!

Re: SAKO TRG FOLDER QUESTION??

I much prefer the looks and the folding mechanism on the KRG folder to the factory version. I have several of their stocks on preorder. If anyone wants production updates, get on their website and subscribe to the newsletter. The crew at KRG know how to design and build some quality stuff. You don't want to use crap on a high end rifle and these guys will not put out second rate gear.

Might be two years old but the search function and this thread gave me info to make a purchase decision. I'm just adding to it for others.

TRG-42 .300WM Grn/phos
Nightforce 5.5X22x50 MOAR
KRG Gen-4 Folder
Harris Bipod

what cha doing with your fixed stock? kind of wanted a green trg42 but got the black instead (I know I can paint it just asking)
