My LRP-07 finally arrived this week and I've pushed the first 50 rounds through the barrel for breaking. I have to say, it's beyond expectation... but that's another conversation.

I know that I want to paint the rifle, and have several cans of Rustoleum camp paint (tan, green, brown). though now at the moment of truth I'm finding myself being a bit reluctant about this. The rifle is gorgeous, and I do like the menacing look of black.

How many of you paint new rifles right away? Do you paint the entire rifle or remove specific parts to leave them black for contrast? Any other tips before I go and ruin my nice new rifle? /grin

Thanks.

Insert empty mag, close dust cover, plug muzzle, tape optic, and SPRAY. it ain't art or rocket science. I would be surprised if my LRP stays black for 5min after it gets here.

Just do it!

...and then post pics

I say leave it, but thats because I love black. Fyi, the finish is teflon based. Not a lot of things stick to it, however I have been told krylon does.

Oh and this thread is worthless withour a pic of your new baby.

all depends bro. if your looking to baby it, IE not stalk with it or take it to the woods you can paint it if you want. and depends on tended purpose of use, if it needs to blend in to the surroundings paint it is my suggestion. if its going to be a safe queen or not dragged through the woods you could keep it the way it is. worst case either way you can get it painted by a pro later on down the road. just for kicks look at the krylon painted rifles here on SH. cant find the link..... its here somewhere, thats the thing about snipers hide.... you might have to look to find things lol :)

I like highlighting certain aspects of the rifle to create contrast. I use Krylon and Alumihide from brownells and a heat gun

This will by no means be a safe queen. I'm shooting my deer(s) this year with it, and hopefully a few coyotes. Next year I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a MN wolf tag. I built this rifle at this quality with the intention to ride it hard and put it away wet... in a proverbial sense.

Here's a quick pic I sent to a friend a couple of days ago, please ignore the bad composition. JP LRP-07 w/ Bushy HDRM, LWRC M6 SPR w/ Bushy SDMR.

-- I'll mess with better pics later.

this is just me, but i'm not one to paint my rifles... keep them all black as I personally think painting them lowers the value of the rifle also.

ELF is right, it will make resale harder. But, for me a rifle this nice is a once in a lifetime purchase, so it will be exactly how I like it.

OH, and averoe is my preferred rattle can as I like their color choices. DSG arms is a good source for averoe.

Here is mine. Used a simple order of colors to do kind of an inverted Multicam
using a Digital style pattern.
Let me know if youd like more info on how I did it.

Black rifles look best painted... sort of ironic lol. When the paint is wearing through by the selector and charging handle, and there's a line blown away at the receiver seams, that's when it starts looking sexy. ; )

If you are going to paint it I would use paints that will not be affected by standard gun cleaning solvents like Gun Kote, Norell's Moly Resin or Lauer Duracoat.

Again, it is a teflon finish. You would have to prep/ blast the surface for it to stick.

As with any finish you would need to follow the manufacturers recommendations in surface preparation before finish application. Not sure where "Teflon" finish came from but per the JP website LRP-07 aluminum components are finished in black matte hardcoat anodizing. "Teflon" finishes usually means that there is Teflon particles in the finish, not that it is a pure Teflon finish.

Teflon based finsh is the exact words told to me by Ben from JP. Also that gun coat etc will not stick unless prepped. Also the barrel should not be removed after thermal fitted. Again this is all direct Ben at JP.

I recently did this POF 308 in a earth tone digital using Cerakote. It's receiver was Np3 coated and I had to blast it off for adhesion purposes before coating. PIA by the way. I have no problems painting my stocks, scopes or complete rifles but that's just me.

Cerakote is the only way to go to increase value, not decrease. Removing paint is very difficult to do.

If your cheap practice 1st if your going to spray it with a rattle can. Here is a Ruger 10/22 I did using Krylon and a PLS I did with Krylon.
