Any weatherby gurus?

My wife just won a 300 weatherby at a ducks unlimited banquet, so naturally I start thinking about how I can modify it...

It's this rifle in 300 weatherby (I know it's just a #2 contour, just bare with me...):
Vanguard Series 2 Synthetic | Weatherby.com

My main question is about the barrels. Does anyone know if all weatherby rifles of the same barrel contour use the same barreled action? For instance, would a Mark V Fibermark ( Mark V® Fibermark Composite | Rifles | Product | Weatherby.com ) be the exact same rifle as mine with just a different stock? Because that stock sells for $275, and the rifle costs $850 more.

What about triggers and detatchable mags? Any advice on what rings to get?

Any help is appreciated!

They are completely different actions.

The Vanguard is built on a standard Howa action to compete at a price point with Remington, Ruger, etc.

The Mark V is Weatherby's proprietary multi lug action used on their top of the line rifles.

I don't know for sure, but I would suspect that stock inletting for the two actions would be substantially different.

Enjoy your Vanguard for what it is. The 300 Weatherby is a great cartridge.

Thanks. I've read some reviews on the vanguard, lots of upgrade to a b&c medalist stock and a timney and have good results.

As said, two completely different actions. They don't accept the same stock inlet. B&C is the economic stock but Manners and McMillan will also inlet for them as doa few other companies.

I would shoot it as is before you go dicking with it. The S2 trigger is an excellent trigger and the factory stock has very good ergonomics. They're guaranteed to shoot sub MOA in factory configuration and with the recoil of the round the shooter is going to be the limiting factor, not the stock. In fact the vanguard S2 243 I had shot better in the factory stock than it did in the B&C medalist I dropped it in. If it were mine I'd be looking into selling it for something a bit more economical, weatherby ammo doesn't come cheap. Luckily out of all the weatherby chamberings the 300 is one of the best sellers next to the 257 so finding a buyer wouldn't be much of an issue.

If your wife won the rifle then why are you modifying it?
