Hi gentlemen, I have a custom Remington 700 .308 HS precision stock krieger barrel canjar set trigger, rifle was build by a well known gunsmith and benchrest shooter, it has 100+ rds thru it and was shooting .2-.3" groups with factory hornady 168 gr amax. I removed the floor plate and installed a HS DBM/10 rd mag, somehow I installed the bolt before torquing the DBM to check the mag function and forgot to remove it before I torqued the DBM then tried to remove the bolt and it was locked with the front action screw, I removed the DBM and trimmed the action screw enough to keep it from contacting the bolt lug and put it back together without further issue, the stock was torqued to 55 lbs and there is a light circle mark on the bolt lug where the action screw pushed it, the real issue is that the rifle won't do better than .75" at 100 yds with the same ammo, I cleaned it, checked bases, rings and everything is tight????
What do you guys think was damaged and what needs to be done to fix it?
Thanks in advance

I Did go back to the floor plate , still the same. :-(

Try polishing off the "circle mark" with some 400 grit paper. Also put some magic marker on the back of the bolt lugs, work the action, see if they are still bearing equally. Might have to lap the lugs, if you really leaned on the extra length screw.

Thanks a lot guys, I just noticed your replies, I guess my notifications are off??
I will try that, I'm going to remove the stock again and try the marker on the lugs and possibly the bolt nose and see if it's touching anywhere. I'm trying to figure out my notification settings, I will post my findings after next range trip

................... torqued to 55 lbs .....................

Dumb question on my part.

Did you mean inch lbs of torque? If you cranked it to 55lbs of torque, I'm not sure what would happen. Maybe some others can contribute here if you over torque things.

Best of luck and hope it gets back to the 2s and 3s for you.

Matt

Vio515, yes I meant inch/lbs torque, I am going to try using a marker around the recoil lugs and the front of the bolt to see if something is rubbing or maybe only one of the lugs making contact with the barrel, and then polish the recoil lug where the ring indentation was left by the screw.
Thanks a lot everyone for the help, amazing group of people here on the site, I have learned A LOT reading and taking advised given to other members.
