what caliber rifle to use

Hello im new to this site , and im wanting to buy a rifle that I can use for long range and for tactical rifle competition ?
Im thinking .308 or 7mm ???? Any advice

There's a great sticky in the tactical forum on what equipment guys are running. For those types of matches 6mm Creedmoor seems to be the way to go.

7mm's are unbeatable without going OTT , I have a 6x284mm but my 7's will leave it standing !
