Finally got around to doing my OCW. Zero for the rifle was WAY low as you could see. Wind kept blowing over my targets. Fighting 10 MPH 1/4 and 1/2 value head winds. So I had to live with my zero being off.

POI was the center of the circle targets.

Hopefully someone can diagnose my OCW from this.

Left to Right:

Top: 43.8 - 44.2 - 44.6 - 45.0 - 45.4

Bottom: 45.8 - 46.2 - 46.6 - 47.0

175 SMK, WCC bras, Varget 2.800 OAL @ 100 yards.

Rifle: Remington 700 SPS tactical B/C A3 Stock 1:12

No pressure signs seen. Even at 47.0. Have no clue what happened to the 3rd shot on 46.2.

I think you're going to need to re-shoot this under better conditions.

I'm surprised that you shot up to 47 grains and didn't have pressure problems.

I would not advise loading that much Varget... your nodes with the 175's in military brass should be 43.1 or 43.2 grains, and again at 44.3 grains (or so).

Crap!

Yea it was a really crappy day. I had to run a public range this time. Wind knocked my target over 2 times as soon as the line went hot. So I had to wait 2 hours before I could use the targets I had to zero my rifle on a rock on the ground. Didn't work very well as you could see.

Being in So Cal.. Its a little harder getting out to a 100 yard range, being the ones in my area are 1 1/2 hours away for the closest. Reason it took me 1 1/2 years to finally get a trip going to shoot this.

There's nothing you guys can get from this? I really dont want to say my whole trip today was for nothing. My 4 hours trip was literally all waiting for my target to stand back up and get this done. Other than that we literally shot dirt with the AR/AK....... :(

I too was surprised I got no signs at 47gr. I loaded it expecting not to get there. No sticky bolt, No cratering, no flat primers...

To effectively use the OCW methodology its critical to have a specific Point of aim and Point of impact. Those two have to be close enough to chart and measure, you unfortunately don't have that.

As mentioned above I prefer some sort of grid to help with that

47 grains of Varget sounds like a bad plan, here's the load data:

175 GR. SIE HPBT Hodgdon Varget .308" 2.800" 42.0 2583 42,600 CUP 45.0C 2690 48,600 CUP

Just from your shots, and having loaded the 175's a lot. I'd pick the 45.0grns Varget. I've burned a lot of powder with those 175's with 45grns. You should be fine. I agree 47grns is a bit hot.

im no expert by any means.

There is indeed a high node at 45 grains in Winchester brass. He said "WCC" brass, which implies military grade stuff, which is thicker and therefore would move the node down.

Unless by WCC he simply means commercial grade Winchester... (?) ...if so, then yes, 45 grains for a "pedal to the metal" node...

Yea I've read some guys getting up to 47.5 graints with this batch of set up. I honestly thought I'd have to stop around 46gr. Guess I have one nice wide chamber...

I wouldn't go any higher than 47 personally.

When shooting I felt like the 46.0 range seemed to be the same POI center as each other. But I never read these things right and I don't know if I just see that being they have semi tight groupings making me think its a good POI match up, reason I came over here for guidance.
