I took my wife out to shoot her new pistol that I bought for her last week and it was a rather disappointing experience. I have always had good luck with Ruger so i thought it would be a great pistol for her to learn on. One magazine won't even work, you have to have a mag inserted or it won't set the trigger and for some reason with the magazine inserted it still won't set the trigger. I can't see any difference between the two mags but it sets the trigger with the other magazine. However, with the one magazine that worked it wouldn't feed for shit. I had problems jamming, it wouldn't strip a round out of the mag and sometimes it wouldn't cycle to cock the hammer no matter what ammo I tried. I think I ruined the chance to get my wife into shooting. I'm calling Ruger Monday to see what they say. Sorry about the rant but it just pisses me off that I'm going to have to send her pistol off to Ruger to get worked on.

Never got a hold of them, the gun shop is sending it back to them to have it looked at.

They replaced both magazines and all is good. Took the wife out to shoot and she fired 60-70 rounds through it without a problem. THe wife on the other hand is not crazy about shooting a pistol, I was teaching her and she seems to be scared of it for some reason. I don't know if it's the noise even though she's wearing hearing protection but I'm going to let her shoot my 17hmr some more to get used to the noise and slight recoil.

Well, at least Ruger made it right for you. I have a SR22 that seems to be pretty good for me. Don't feel bad about the wife not liking handguns, my wife is the same way no matter what sort of caliber of handgun she shoots. Some people just don't like to shoot handguns, but she does well with small caliber rifles. So, when she goes with me, I let her shoot what she wants and don't pressure her to shoot handguns.

Yeah it's no big deal if she doesn't like shooting pistols, I will look good shooting the purple framed sr-22 :) I prefer shooting rifles anyway so if she ends up shooting more this year I will get her setup with a nice .223 and a brake so it won't kick at all. She says she wants to spend more time with me shooting so we will see if she actually means it, if not it's a good excuse to buy another rifle lol

Got the wife to do some more shooting with the pistol and it's doing the same shit again. I used to think highly of Ruger handguns but this one has me so fucking pissed off.

what ammo you using? 22 anything can be fickle. FWIW my dads has run flawless when fed right. loves win and fed bulk, remmy, not so much.

It's mainly the mag disconnect issue again. I have tried about four kinds of ammo and it will eat 3 of them. What funny is my brothers sr22 will eat anything and has yet to have a single issue, I must have got a lemon. I removed the mag disconnect to see what happens with it today, hopefully it's better.

I got rid of the mag disconnect issue for good but it's still picky about the ammo. If ammo was easier to find it wouldn't be an issue but I have yet to see mini mags at a reasonable price online.

It's accurate and a fun pistol to shoot when it's functioning. I will be buying a case of mini mags as soon as I find them at a reasonable price so the wife can keep shooting. I cut out a piece of steel about 16x22 for her to shoot so she won't get discouraged missing the target, over time I will gradually make smaller targets until she outshoots me lol.
