I've got a Noveske N4 (.223/5.56) and I'd like to free float the barrel. I currently have a Daniels Defense Omega 9" on there (anyone wants to buy it PM me). I have been doing a bit of reading and noticed a lot of people saying send the upper back to Novesek if you don't want to bend and screw up punches to get the FSP (front sight post) off. I was also considering just cutting and grinding it down.
Can I reuse the gas tube when gonig from FSP to low-profile gas block? Should I be looking for a .750 low profile gas block to replace the FSP.

    Any suggestions?

if its the same fsb I have on my noveske 10.5" you shouldn't have any problem getting those pins out. I just had mine out for the first time to put a lopro block on it. I always put it on the floor on carpet to kind of deaden the blow of the hammer and punch. I believe I used an 1/8" punch. the gas tube is good to reuse. its a good idea to rine a pipe cleaner through it and clean it up good while you have it out

Awesome thanks for the response. The low pro gas block that I should be looking for is a .750 diameter, ya??

I've removed a butt-load of front site bases in the last few years. In my experience, resting the site base on something solid like the flat portion of a bench vise makes all the difference. Prop up one side of the base on a stack of pennies or something (the top, most likely) to make sure the bottom of the taper pins aren't contacting the surface that you have the base rested on. Remember that the pins only come out one direction (hit the smaller side).

Use a larger punch (3/8" or so) to get the pin started, then switch to a smaller punch to get it all the way through. I just smack the punch with a 1lb framing hammer. A few big smacks should get the pin started. If it still doesn't want to come out, squirt it with penetrating oil and try again in a few hours.

Good deal. Thanks for the tips. Big hammer... hit pins out right way. Done and done.

Looks like I'll be throwing a 15" Troy rail on there and looking for a noveske low pro gas block.
