These two scopes are very similar except in price. The Steiner 1-4 has a list price of $1895 vs. the Burris MTAC with a of around $399 (depending on store).

Does anyone know if Steiner makes the MTAC for Burris?

Does anyone have a Steiner 1-4 Tactical and if so, can you comment on the daylight visibility of the dot reticle?

Re: Burris MTAC Made by Steiner?

The Steiner Predator Extreme scopes are being made in the Burris plant in Colorado. Not sure about their new military line of tactical scopes.

Re: Burris MTAC Made by Steiner?

IIRC, Beretta owns both Steiner and Burris, thus the unlikely partnership.

And yes, all but the 5-25x Steiner Military scopes are made in the Burris plant in Colorado.

Re: Burris MTAC Made by Steiner?

Those two scopes are similar is the physical appearance. Opticaly they are not even close. The MTAC is a great instrument for the price point. The 1x is closer to 1x than optics I've seen that are twice the cost. However the Steiner has the better optical system and it is very apparent when you look through both.

The dot is daylight visible. Also works with NVD's.

Re: Burris MTAC Made by Steiner?

Thanks Chris for the update!

Working on a decision for optics on my new RECCE rifle and the Steiner info helps.

Zomie post revival :).There sure seems to be some cross breeding occuring. The Mtac G2 mildot reticle looks to be identical to the Steiner "tactical" series reticle. The Steiner predator housing has obvious Burris heritage. The question is which cromasone went where and thats always tricky and gets trickier yet in this age of conglomerates. Beretta might have purchased Steiner and Burris specifically for cross breeds and if they get it right, it might have potential to provide value. I hope they are upfront with which components are sourced where but I expect thats asking too much.

I really doubt that the MTAC and Steiner share even one single part of any size or function. There aren't many ways to make a 1-4x24mm scope, they all end up looking the same. The gen2 mildot is a good reticle that was adopted by Burris for their moderately priced MTAC series, a great choice but that doesn't mean they collaborated with Steiner on it (I think Premier created this particular reticle).

There are sometimes weird collaborations when different companies with overlapping products have the same corporate owner, but I don't think the MTAC and Steiner is one of them. However, I do think that the Steiner Hunter (their lower priced line) looks awfully similar to the discontinued Burris Black Diamond / Euro Diamond lines, all of which were/are made in Colorado.

I called Burris, and what they told me is, the only thing German in the Military Steiners and the Predators is glass , all other parts internals included are sourced by Burris, the exception being the Steiner 5x25 which is 100% made in Germany( as posted above). The Mtacs are Japanese glass. Burris is building a new clean room for the Steiner product line and is very serious about retaining the value represented by Berettas purchase of Steiner. IMHO if resources are shared correctly, and modern manufacturing process are implemented correctly this is will be a win win win for Burris, Steiner, and the consumer.

I have a Steiner 1-4 soon to be upgraded to a 1-5, it is super daylight bright and an amazing scope for ARs.

Yes both brands are owned by Beretta.

NONE of the 5x military scopes are made in the US. All 3 of those scopes are made in Germany.

The two brands shared a manufacturing facility here in Colorado for the last couple of years. That facility is now being revamped and will be gearing up to manufacture mostly Steiner products. To label it a Burris factory would be misleading.

There was cooperation between the two brands in product design early on as Steiner initially wanted to get involved in scopes. With several years under our belt we are now moving in our own direction with our own designs and manufacturing.

The MTAC, which is made in the Philippines, and the Steiner products share nothing. The parts are not interchangeable and the glass is completely different.

I can attest to the glass diffence
The Steiner Military 1-5 is right there with my S&B
The MTAC is a great entry level scope and a fantastic bargain.
I really like the Stenier 1-5

So certain Steiner scopes are made at the Burris factory. The irony is, I doubt many Burris scopes are made there. My old Fullfield II 4.5-14 says "Made in Phillipines".
