I had primary extraction issues with this gun so I sent the bolt off to Dan Armstrong at Accutig to move the handle forward and tig it in place. When I got it back the handle contacted the small hood on the back of the action and would not slide forward. I took a flat file and carefully removed a few thousandths off the hood until the handle cleared it. Now the bolt hits the cocking ramp but will not cock into position. I made a video to illustrate, anybody know what the problem is now? It looks to me like the handle is too far forward and the lugs are not able to seat in the action???

What is the distance between the action face and the far side of the lug? The distance petween the backside of the bolthead and the bolt handle face? It looks like the bolt head cant rotate onto the face of the lug. Did you give the smith specific instructions and dimensions?

I measured the gap between the front of the bolt handle and rear of the action. Mine was .019, he moved the handle forward .011. This has caused me so much of a headache I will never build off a trued Remington action again.

Did you send him the action along with the bolt...

Ive timed and Tig'd over 300 M700 actions since June as a result of our GB. Its not a Remington problem. I can promise you that. If youd like it fixed feel free to give me a call.

Happy to help and good luck on your project.

GIGO problem. Garbage in, garbage out. In all likelihood, you did not measure properly and gave Dan crap to work with. This ain't his first rodeo and his work is top notch.

Measured with a feeler gauge you prick. The only garbage on this post is you, whoever the fuck you are. Talked with Chad this morning and Dan called me about it this afternoon, both were very informative and more than eager to help. It's a possibility that my action was bent by the smith when he took the old barrel off. Gotta take a look at a few things when I get back home.

I'm not getting any of this? Even the nomenclature seems confusing? It would take a strong man to "bent" a 700 action. Solutions involving moving and TIG-ing a bolt handle seem premature. I am not getting it? BB

If the action was bent, I'd bet a dollar that the bolt wouldn't even go into the receiver w/o binding up. The vid clip clearly shows that it runs like chit through a goose right up to the point that its supposed to start rotating into battery. Then it hits a brick wall.

The handle is just in the wrong spot. Its not the end of the world, its just gotta get fixed.

When people are involved mistakes are going to happen.

When having a bolt timed always send the action with it. Chad is right in that the handle looks to be to far forward. You should have about .010 between the action and bolt handle, .019 is quite a bit for just being timed. Its not the end of the world, box it up send it to the smith and wait till she comes back.
