I was looking to get a Remington 40xb, but was not having luck at finding one in the condition I wanted. Went down to the gun shop yesterday and ordered the 64 MPR. I know they accurate but I plan on doing a few things to make it a little more me. I am wondering who makes the best base with 20-30 moa. I hope I don't get yelled at but here it goes, I am considering cutting the barrel down and threading it for a suppressor. Has anyone ever done this or seen one that has been threaded. If it will hurt acuracy I will just leave it as is. I am also trying to pick the perfect scope, it needs to be that tactical/classic wood stocked sniper rifle style. Scopes I have been looking at are S&B police fixed 10, Leupold Mark 4 fixed 10 or mid power (4.5-14), US Optics st-10 (if I could find one) I sure you get something in that ball park that performs and looks great. Just curious what people have done with there 64 MPR, pics would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

Just so you know a lot of the best rimfire barrels are choked at the muzzle for better accuracy. If it is choked then you may lose some accuracy. My advice would be to use a smith who has a lot of rimfire experience. If it were me I would slug the barrel before you send it out so you know where you are starting. Also shoot it before you modify it because if there is an issue

Sorry my phone died...

If there is an issue you will know and can have it repaired before the modifications. And you will know if the modifications help or hurt.

tommy your gun do with it what you will, but i would take, jbell's advice if you plan on cutting it down,
now i shoot a MPR an so do others at our TSC match.if you ask me or the 10 are so other MPR shooters we say leave it as is. they are HAMMERS...

As far as a scope it depends on your budget. If you want to spend as little as possible then a Super Sniper is hard to beat (either the 10X, 12X, or one of the variable power scopes). As far as the base if that particular rifle is drilled and tapped then DIP makes one if it is not the DIP may not work so well (a friend was dealing with this last night) or USO makes one for an 11mm dovetail that works nice. Also Anschutz offer rings for these rifles as well.

My anschutz 64 has dip 25moa base its very nice and sturdy dip bolt knob 4-16x50 vortex and low nf ring.

As much as I hate to say it, Center X. But also give RWS R-50 or R-100, and the offerings from Eley a try. The SK Jagd and Wolf Max Extra are also worth a shot.

Eley Match and Lapua Center X have consistently been the best performers for me. Presumably Tennex would be better as it comes off the same machines as Match but is more stringently lot selected. It just costs to damn much. I have not tried Lapua X-act and the little Midas + I have tried has not performed as well as center x. The RWS I have tried so far has really laid an egg and I have not gotten any agreeable wolf lots though others seem to like it. I plan to try some Eley match pistol at some point but it hasn't been in stock for a while.

Oh, an jbell is on the money with his modifications advice.

I have seen a cut down MPR. It was a hammer. I would be very damn careful though WHO I let hack on my MPR barrel. As for me I will leave mine alone. You might try Federal 922A and Fed. Ultramatch. These are both made by RWS. Our current club record, highest scores are (and like Mr Bell has alluded to I hate giving this information freely) held by Center X and Midas + . You will just have to find magic lot numbers no matter what you choose. I will stress again DON"T TEST YOUR AMMO AT 100 YARDS and expect it to be linear in it's performance out past 200yds. It doesn't work that way. I know there are guys that will insist "That's what I do and it worked for me." Well good for you. Go buy yourself a lottery ticket this weekend.

Thanks for all the help, I am getting excited to get the new toy home. I am going to use the rifle for hunting, tactical precision 22 course and pushing the distance as far as I can with a 22. I have been looking at the new vx-6 34mm with 4-24 MOA reticle, what do you guys think?

JL hey i did buy a lottery ticket this weekend, it was a damm loser too. my kung fu has been very weak last few weeks,
we do shot out to 200yrd in the match, that why ol chikin posted testing out that far;

Tommy, you made a great choice. If you take a look at the 6 target 5 shot challenge on this forum you will see that 25% of the shooters use Anschutz and 66% of the Annie shooters use the 64MPR. You may already know but ammo selection is critical to performance. The guys that are really serious about rimfire try everything, then buy ammo from different lot numbers of the best performers and retest and finally buy the best performer in bulk. Lapua Center X is a good mid-price range ammo with reasonable availability and seems to be getting regularly restocked. If you haven't owned a really good rimfire you are going to have a ball.
