Hey guys,

So I've had my new Remington 700 sps tactical for a couple weeks now, and have put exactly 40 rounds through the tube. I cleaned it both times with a one piece Tipton carbon cleaning rod, being very careful every time. I was looking through the bore yesterday, and noticed small nicks in a couple places. Now I am young and have very good eyes, and they are pretty small. But is this normal? I don't get I could have done this with my rod.

Thanks, Evan

^^^^^^^yup.

I wouldn't bother cleaning more than every 300 rounds and then only when accuracy suffers. If the marks you speak of are somewhere between the throat and the crown, it's unlikely they'd bother anything very much anyway.

added: My 5r took almost 40 rounds to settle down after a cleaning.
