Here's what I have: Remington 700p 308 and a Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP. Setup will be used for target shooting (out to 500 yds to start).

The guys at my LGS were useless as far as recommending an appropriate base and rings thus this post.

What would you recommend? My local options are Warne, Leupold and Weaver.

Appreciate the feedback.

You can prob get into some Warne maxima rings and dual bases for under $100. The are steel and rock solid. The dual bases are shorter, so you may have to go Med on the rings with a 50mm obj. Leupold MK 4 one piece base is canted 15 moa and you can get the Warne low rings with that combo. But the base itself is about $120. The Warne single piece base is good to go as well, but I cant advise to ring combo and that scope.

Hopefully your LGS will let you dry fit. Some stores out here will mount your scope for free with purchase of rings.

Thanks for the feedback. My local options are Sportsmans Warehouse, Bass Pro, Scheels and Brownells is just 40 miles east.

Sportsmans has been less than knowledgable and BPS has no selection in the store. Trying Scheels tomorrow and then Brownells is always a failsafe.

I'm just most interested in what works best for my gun/optic. I've already spent more than I wanted so at this point I'm all in.

I ended up with a Talley mount and Burris XTR rings. This was suggested by Sport Optics. Has worked well so far.

I have same rifle and scope. I used an EGW 20moa rail and low TPS rings. It all fits and functions fine

Thanks all for the suggestions. Fortunate to have Brownells down the road I had them get me set up with the EGW 20moa base and some TSR med rings.

I ordered the Vortex optic from Optics Planet a week ago (it was in stock) and it still hasn't shipped. To say I'm anxious to get this setup to the range is an understatement.
