I'm getting my father a new shotgun for Xmas and need opinions on what to get. Budget is 999$ but would like to stay 7-800$ range and it needs to be a synthetic auto loader. Any suggestions?

Cabelas has the Winchester sx3 for 950$ and I was also looking at the beretta a300. How are these compared to the 11-87
Duck and dove mostly. He has other shotguns but he wants a synthetic auto loader. I'd rather buy him a new gun rather than used
Can't comment on those two as I've never owned them but the 1187 is proven itself through the years, I have a couple and one that's pretty beat up I use for ducks & geese, it gets tossed around the boat laid in dirt, water, snow, bottom of a lake silt and whatever else mother nature has to offer and has never failed as of yet.
A buddy has a Benelli SBE and while it's a nice gun it's lite but has a lot of felt recoil..
Just about any semi auto will work if it's going to see minimal use but for a work horse stick with a manufacture's better guns don't get the lesser grade copies they offer of they're better guns by that I mean don't opt for Rem Express over their Wingmaster.
I've got the beretta 390 and I'm tickled with it. Shot the sweet crap outta some pheasant up at eagle pass lodge with Mark (another 'hider). One of the guides with us was using the sx3 and couldn't say enough good about it. From duck hunting in Minnesota across to pheasant in S.D., they've had nothing but great service in all kinds of shitty conditions.
His gun weren't no safe queen either, she'd had some use. If I had a $1K budget, the Winnie would get the nod.

Benelli or Remington 870. If he doesn't have an 870, get him one. Its a CLASSIC! Yeah, its a pump but there is nothing wrong with a pump shotgun. My 870 has been used for everything from a boat paddle to a machette and has always fired flawlessly. My Benelli is the M1 Super 90 (I think thats right) and can probably be found for under $1000. I got mine 15+ years ago. It shoots 2 3/4 and 3" which is all you need. I do like 3.5" for turkey hunting but wouldn't recommend Mossberg to anyone for anything other than turkey hunting and even then, there are better options.
