I have used a couple different B&C stocks and found the ones with the more vertical grip offer better trigger control. Other than that they are well made low cost stocks.
Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist Style 2 Remington 700 SPS BDL Savage 10/12 Weatherby Vanguard Howa 1500 Vertical Grip 2092, 2096, 2997, 2998 & 2999
Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist Style 3 w/ "Hook" Model 2956 Long Range Lightweight Remington 700 Short Action Stock

I think style 3 would be close to the one you were looking at with the benefit of better trigger control. I had the first model I put a link to and it was a great stock that I eventually upgraded to the style 5 fully adjustable and loved it. For $265 you really cant go wrong especially being it has a FL bedding block.

I just bought this from Stockys. Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist Style 3 w/ "Hook" Model 2956 Long Range Lightweight Remington 700 Short Action Stock Olive Green. Kinda looks like a McMillan which I'm used to shooting. I hope your right!!!

I have that exact set up, 700 AAC-SD in the B&C M40. I really like the stock and for the money I don't think you will have any complaints as long as you go into it knowing what you are getting. I knew when buying I didn't want the adjustable comb and ordered a stock pack with an extra set of risers to put on it to make up the difference. I know I will probably get hammered on here for saying this, but mine is wearing an old Springfield Armory 6-20X56 on top of a 20 MOA base so it is riding pretty high. With the stock pack on it is very easy to get a good cheek weld and comfortable shooting position, w/o the pack it is doable but w/ the pack it is much more comfortable and consistent. I have no complaints with it. I also have a Weatherby Vanguard in .257 Wby that wears a B&C from the factory and I have no complaints with that one either.

I got the"hooked" style. It looks like an A3 McMillan. It's got the fl bedding block ect ect... I do like the m40 though. Shot behind one several times and they feel nice.

It's just from my experience that the vertical grip gives better trigger control, I'm fighting this issue now with a HS precision for a model 7. Nobody offers a vertical grip for a Model 7 especially with a varmint barrel so I purchased the nicest one I could through Stocky's like you did. I hate the conventional style and am having Manners build me a T2 for the 7 right now.... It's a lot more $ and a 4 month wait but I gotta do what I gotta do to get the vertical grip I'm used too from my 700! I think your gonna love it.

I agree about the vertical grip for trigger control. For me It's pretty much a must have, or I just can't get comfortable for proper fundamentals. I had a B&C stock before, and it was OK for the money. Just watch out with the swivel studs, they break free easily from bipods and slings.

I have both the M-40 and the Light tactical and have found both two be good. The M40 is a great fit for a rifle that is going to be shot more out of prone as the stock has a lower drop at the butt. Both share the same grip location and angle, the check rest is at the same hieght as best as tell but feels a little thinner. I really like the light tactical but the M40 is growing on me for a hunting stock...

I generally do, not out of need but want. But to answer your question I have 3 light tacticals and one M40. All shoot well and I’ve only skim bedded two of the light tacticals so far. In each of the light tacticals consistency improved...

I have a set of matching rifles in B&C medalist a2's. Both of them were skim bedded but only out of habit. It honestly didn't need it. The vertical grip takes some getting used to but it's nice once you do.

Niles, Good description. Why Tac. Competitors are seen shooting T-3's, A-1-3 ...
Hook, if you can take the action from the stock, for about .13 cents you can set the studs with epoxy. I use JB. Only sling 'disaster' I have witnessed was a Ruger varmint. it probably unscrewed itself over years with no attention. Well spent .13 and more important than 'bedding' one of the bedding block stocks.
Bell Carlson [M-40] and HS stocks both have a machine thread to metal.
My final .02 is fit. If the stock fits, it is the right stock.

Well I ordered 6 ounces of devcon plastic steel and bought some kiwi shoe polish a few days ago. I don't know when, but I'll bed it when I can. I'm laying in a hospital. My wife just gave birth to my first child (a son... Jacob Hayes Ellis) I'm so excited about it. I've even got him a youth model 7 mm-08 that was given to me by my father. Going to rebarrel it, put a good stock on it , in the years to come!! Here's the little dude....

A rifle that I helped my 16-year old son put together. 700 AA-SD .308 action in a B&C medalist M40 stock. Did not skim bed. Wyatts bottom metal, Badger 20MOA base. Shooting right at 1moa. Fantastic budget rifle for him to learn on. The stock fits the action and barrel profile perfectly, although my son does have to add a check pad to get a proper weld.

Congratulations man!

I just received my Bell & Carlson M40 stock by the big brown truck from Red Hawk Rifles in Colorado. It's going on a m700 .308 AAC-SD. I got it switched out during my lunch break and it looks break. Stock fit the action great, and barrell is completely free floating (paper test). MUCH better IMO than the Hogue stock that it came with! Just need to get out and shoot it to really test it out.

BTW this stock was only $257 including shipping from RHR. Ordered it Friday and it showed up today before lunch! GREAT customer service also.

Great looking RIG. Hope mine turns out that good. Although I got the "hook" 2956 in olive green with black webbing. I'm going to be PISSED if my barrel isn't floated. That's the whole problem I got with the houge. That and no bedding

My stock will be here later today. What are you guys torquing your action screws to??
Also, I think my RECOIL LUG is a little off centered... Can't I take a brass hammer and straighten it out ?? I was going to use a long level and draw a straight line with a pencil to the action screw holes from the lug in which I was going to measure the width with a caliper and mark the recoil lugs center with a pencil. Them just line up the lines bthoughts???

45 in/lbs for me. I would suggest that you may not want to go any more gung ho than that with the factory bottom metal in there

someone else may tell you differently, but I wouldn't be too keen on taking a brass hammer to the recoil lug of your rifle.

Standard bottom metal and bedding = 45 in. Lbs

Metal bedding block/chassis with quality bottom metal = 60 in. Lbs

Oops... I torqued mine to 65in/lbs per John McQuay at 8541tactical. He added an M40 to his budget build AAC and said to tighten the front and rear to 65.... Should I back mine off some?

Got it put on and I must say DAMN!! THIS THING FEELS GOOD!! It feels a lot better than my 5r or my

you'll see both the 45 and the 65 numbers if you surf the internets enough. if it were mine I would back it out to 45, but that's just my opinion. I haven't seen going over 45 on a factory sendero, 700P, or savage in a B&C to offer any sort of accuracy advantage.

I torqued mine to 55 in/lb just because I've read 65 and 45 in/ lb. figured I'd meet it in the middle and see how it does. Barrel is VERY sturdy.... Barrel Will barely move if I apply a good bit of pressure to it up and down. I did the dollar bill test while on a bipod and absolutely touched nothing till I got to the action. Damn I love this stock!!

I shot mine today with every match grade ammo you can think of. Hornady,FGM, Nosler, black hills, and some others. Had a trigger installed and torqued it to 50 in/lb. IT SHOT LIKE SHIT!! Finally, I took the stock off, took a minute to think , and decided to torque to 30 in/lb. BINGO!! Started shooting better and better. My last group was the best of the day. Well below .25 moa with a. Black Hills 168.

5 shots

I shot yesterday with 168 Nosler Match, 168 Fiottchi , and 175 fgm. I took off my Zeiss and put on an extra NF NXS I have. At 200 yards , every bullet I shot was hitting 1/2 to 3/4" groups. Talk about a difference!! I glass bedded with Devcon and bedded the recoil lug too. It even shot 185 vlds that were loaded for a GA P I had. 2.825 coal. My throat is close to 3.000". Hard to believe it shot em. I love this rig. Light, maneuverable , and seems to be DEADLY!

you've got a shooter there. I'm consistently pleased with how well my factory 700P shoots. I just load 168's to magazine length (nowhere near touching), go out and shoot.

I had a 700 P in .300 win mag. It was by far my most favorite rifle I've ever owned. Even had the chance to kick a few 4,000 $ rifles ass' at 1200 yards. Got to love the Police!!
