I just picked up a Bartlein barrel for my next build. Im truing the action, bedding the Hs stock, jewel trigger and making this rifle a 6mmBR. Do I need to install a precision ground lug or just reuse the Rem stock one?

In my opinion is not necessary, the Remington recoil lug works just fine (a friend of mine have a Remington 700 with lothar walter barrel, trued action, jewel, new stock, etc..and use the factory recoil lug => a super precision rifle )! But..., if you make all these modification, what it means to change it?

Your spending $300+ on a barrel, your time and $$$$$$ to true the receiver, bed the stock and chamber the barrel. Your talking about saving a whopping $40-$50 by re-using the issued, crocked, non-flat, stamped recoil lug.

Go ahead and splurge, spend the $$ and get a .250" thick custom lug from PTG. Get a Remington profile lug though, parallel sides I think they call it.

Try 30 to 31 grains of Varget with a CCI450 primer and a 105 Berger VLD in the lands.

You're spending good cash to ensure everything has tight tolerances so that you can squeeze every bit of accuracy out that you can....Badger recoil lugs are like $30...if you're going to be a bear...be a damn grizzly!
