Hey guy's , Lookin for a good scope for up to about 1000 yards for my Savage...
Thanks for your comments...

Purpose of rifle is more important than model of rifle. Budget is also a concern, because without it, the answer is simple - Schmidt and Bender, Kahles, Premier, Steiner, NF, etc, etc...

Been hovering around here since 2009 with 3 posts and you can't come to a conclusion on which scope could serve your needs?
There's some i can recommend but they may only work to 990yds on a savage so I won't recommend them.

simple, buy as much scope as you can afford. my first was a millet 6 x 25 x56 got the job done. now I have a nightforce. glass quality at 1000 is so much better. you definitely know where your money went!!

These guy's are right, your budget and past experience will dictate what you should get. I would easily recommend an SWFA SS 3-15X42, that's what I started with now I'm stepping up to a top tier scope probably the Steiner or NF. like someone else said; spend as much as you can now so you won't regret it later.....

I have a FCP-SR in 308 and I put a sightron SIII 6-24x50 on top and works great for that range for around $800.

The hell with the feathers man, ask away, we all ask stupid shit from time to time!!!! I think we'r all here to help each other! at least some of us are anyway.....

On the cheap end; SWFA SS 12x .............$300
On the high end; Hensoldt 4-16x............$4000
Good compromise; Nightforce 3-15x...........$1700

All comes down to budget. Some great values at every price point.

Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50, ffp, mil/mil. Retails for $950 but I have bought two for about $100 less each. Try a dnz freedom reaper 1 piece 20 moa savage (round receiver) mount. Works great and reasonably priced. I shoot 900 yards with it no problem. Great scope and mount for the money.

(also if you go for a Vortex PST scope, you may want to avoid the 4-16x50 model. There have been many posted complaints about the glass. I am very happy with the glass in both my 6-24x50 models).

Price is everything. What is the budget, many can give you a run down of options at that price point.

Truth is a 400 Millet 4x16 will do it fine, unless your shooting x-rings at 1000 or something. For steel no problem. Beyond that you get into features and quality of features. Need to specify budget really.

I also highly recommend the Countersniper line of scopes. I run one on my Barret which is a 50cal necked down to 17hmr and it shoots them bullets at 30k fps. I really like how clear the scope is at 2k yards and how repeatable it is on the box test i run at 1237 yards.

After some thought I went to the high side of my budget, I bought a Steiner 5416 4-16x50 Scope...I got it for $1499 NIB...
With free shipping from EuroOptic. Now just waiting for it to get here. Thanks for all the replies...

My first scope was $40. With it I learned about variable magnification, ffp vs. sfp, and most importantly, you get what you pay for, glass is blue and fuzzy, reticle is a bit off the focal plane.
