2707 Yards 1.54mi Shot! Savage 110BA 338 Lapua - YouTube

I wanted to share this little video shooting the Savage 110BA 338 Lapua at a distance of 2707 yards. I was using 300gr Berger bullets traveling at 2740 FPS. This shot required about 35 mils of hold over, with the nightforce NXS I was able to dial 27.5 mils, back the magnification off to 13X and use the bottom of the 5 mil reticle. With a flight time of just over 5 seconds it comes in pounding with 740ft-lbs of energy at 1.54mi away.

Please correct me if I am off a bit, but I believe it only takes 80'# of energy per square inch to push through human flesh. With the delivery of 750'# into an area .338 in diameter at it's base, and smaller at it's tip, I think we would call this a hit, and a possible kill if it were in either of the six frontal cavities. Remember, these cavities are smaller than the entire peripheral measurement. The transfer of energy would cause more damage due to hydrostatic shock than anything else.
A pericardium cavity shot would definitely kill. A Pleural cavity shot would kill. An abdominal cavity shot would more than likely make a big mess and kill via bacterial infection later on. A shot to the pelvic or mediastum cavity would more than likely kill due to cutting the iliac artery or aeorta.
In other words, hit one of those cavities with that size bullet and 750'# of delivered energy and see if it doesn't do critical damage. Remember, the largest cavity is the abdominal. The others are actually quite small

Damage, yes. A kill, maybe. A legit hit, a solid NO.

Agreed on legit hit to be sure. I don't see any but the best snipers we have making this an accurate cold bore shot. The above damage listed for the smaller cavities will indeed kill through blood loss. If it is the pleural cavity, the damage to the lungs will be more than enough to kill. The only real chance for the target to live would to pray for a thoracic cavity hit as anything on arm, or leg would also tear the main artery and cause death by blood loss
