How easy/hard is it to convert a savage 16 to a blind mag?

McMillan won't make a game scout for a savage unless it is a blind mag. I don't want to jump into a 16 if I can't upgrade the stock.

I'm not sure that the model 16 action has the notches in the bottom for the magazine box. That may make it difficult to go with a blind mag. Also, I believe that most Savage actions with blind mags are stagger feed and have a shorter screw spacing than the model 16 (4.25" I think) so the mag box would also be shorter. You may be able to rig something up by taking your hinged/detachable mag apart and just using the box and spring/follower. It would have to be attached somewhere though to be sure it is not moving around and feeds correctly.

^^ Savage short & long blind magazines are both stagger fed (older style) & the newer ones are center fed.
Drop over to the Savage shooters site and Im sure you will find out if that can be done.

savage question

New Savage 16s are centerfeed (4.41") with factory DBM and bottom bolt release...pretty sure converting a bottom release rifle to blind mag would be difficult if not impossible.

For a slightly older centerfeed 16 with top bolt release and factory DBM, its simply a matter of centerfeed mag well, follower and L-clip along with a trigger guard (not sure if the DBM guard would work or not).

Why won't McM inlet for a Savage factory DBM???

McMillan will only do a dbm savage stock in the A-series and the HTG. The mag box is too wide to support any type of factory DBM in the sporting line of stocks.
