I have a Remington 700 Tactical AAC-SD with the 1:10 twist barrel. 308 Win.

Havnt had time to shoot it a whole lot. Wondering what everyone else is using for a load.

Shooting 175gr SMKs and Reloader 15 powder... tried varget and couldn't get a group.

Last time out I think I was at 40.5gr RL 15 and had a decent group. But, still not great. I had a SPS Tac with 1:12 twist and it would punch holes with 168gr.... should of kept that gun, but I didn't I wanted the tighter twist and threaded barrel to add a Brake.

So where is a good starting Point, what loads are you shooting out of this gun?

Remington 700 Tactical AAC-SD 308 Win. Bushnell 4200elite tactical 6-24. JP muzzle Brake, B&C varmint/tactical medalist stock.

So armed with somebodies "pet" RL15 load, what would you do with it??

My RL-15 308 175 gr SMK Load

Brass: Winchester Once Fired
Powder: Alliant Reloader-15, 43.1 gr
Primer: Federal Large Rifle Match (210M)
Bullet: 175gr Sierra Match King BTHP
C.O.A.L.: 2.82"

Now that I've given you a load, please ignore it and ALWAYS go to your manuals and start with their recommended loads and work your way up to your rifle's own accuracy node. It's the safest and best way to find a accurate load for your rifle.

I know. I always start low and work my way up... just last time I went out I stopped at 42gr... Then started reading a few loads around 44

I have the exact same rifle.
My load:
175 SMK
45.7 gr RL-15
Remington Brass
CCI primers

I had a node at 44 grains too but only 2400 fps. This load has the occasional flat primer but no other pressure signs. Don't start here obviously...

I suggest reading TresMon stickies in the snipers hide reloading and then doing a bunch of searches on here for OCW (opitmal charge weight) and ladder testing. Great resources, provided you are an experienced enough reloader to know what is safe. Otherwise stick with book loads, the ladder or ocw tests should treat you well. Good luck

Believe it or not the best accuracy with my 1:10 twist Shilen was 39.5 gr RE15 and a 175. Not very fast but it shoots in the low 2's, ie 1/4" groups at 100.

Thats a good point what is the intended use for this round ? Punching paper a one hundred is different than shooting eight hundred ?

I have this same rifle and been working back and forth on loads for it. We found a node at 42 grns and 44 grns using, don't laugh, BLc-2. I know a lot of folks say that powder is not any good, but it was available and there was load data for it in the book to work with. We have found that the 175 grn SMK is the rifles favorite bullet. I have also found that the FGMM is it's favorite off the shelf ammo in the 175 grn SMK. I have 50 loaded right now all individually weighed at 44 grns and we are working the OAL. I have the bullets seated from 2.80 out to 2.889. The AI mag is 2.91 deep. So I am trying to keep this as a magazine fed tool.

I have measured our chamber using the Hornady comparator and guage to 3.254". That is waaay out there and have purchased some Berger VLDs to attempt pushing them out to the lands. I am just a chicken to do it. I am just blown away by how deep the lands are in this rifle.

Current load
175 grn BTHP
44 grn BLc-2
Federal GMM brass
CCI Large rifle primer
OAL 2.80-2.89

I am not a professional reloader and all of this is experimental data. If you choose to use this info, do so at your own risk.

Just get yourself some 2000MR and you'll get so much more velocity than with RE15, and it's so much cleaner as well, save the RE15 for a 708. I use 47.3grs 2000MR with 178HPBTs, very accurate and over 2700fps, you wont get close to that with RE15 unless you over pressure the load with 44grs or more, and btw 44grs is too much for RE15.

Taking other peoples let loads is just going to end in the same result. You take the short cut and your groups will too.

If you want fantastic groups and top performance do OCW, or a ladder test and go from there. If you just want a load to be ok and maybe work just use someone's pet load. You get what you put in.
