I bought one of these rifles NIB the other day. Can anyone tell me what angle the muzzle brake should be at? I had it in my head that it should be horizontal, but mine seems to have a few degrees off of level when the rifle is in shooting position.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

OK, thanks.

I have a call in to Armalite but have not heard anything back yet. Makes sense that it should not have an angle to blow dirt, etc off the ground on one side...

The ring directly behind the muzzle break has 4 small holes in 90 degrees apart. This piece is a jam nut. You will need to fabricate a spanner or purchase one. A simple matter of loostening the nut and repositioning the break. I used a magnetic torpedo level on the scope base to set the weapon level and then positioned the break level to that.

Messed with the brake a bit longer, and it and the jam nut can be turned by hand almost a full turn.

I debated making the fix myself, and decided on general principal that I shouln't have to repair my brand new baby...

The factory will have the opportunity to make the needed fix.

Must have missed the red lock tight on yours.
When I wanted to get mine off, it took considerable heat and muscle to get her off.

I shoot mine back and forth with the brake and a suppressor, each having pros and cons.

I would have paid a little extra to not have had that thing wrenched/glued down like they come from factory.

I can see that, if you wanted to pull the brake off.

native,

Who did you get your spanner wrench from. I'm having trouble locating one to take my brake off.

Thanks!

You should not have to loosen the jamb/indexing nut to remove the brake the first time from what I remember.

Much easier two person operation in my case.
Set the rifle up on the floor and heat that brake up HOT, be careful of the barrel crown of course sticking out the end of the brake. Direct the heat to the rear gills front and back and when it smokes the loctight, you'll know it's time.
Stuck a bar/wrench thru the ports of the brake and had #1 son facing the rifle and brake on the wrench.[yes it is a right hand thread]
I mounted the beast from the other end working as the clamp with knees and hands.
Spin that puppy off and then work the nut off accordingly.
Clean everything up and good to go.

As far as a spanner wrench now I actually use that little wrench for an AR stock. It only has the one tooth from which to engage the nut but its circumference is perfect and tightens/loosens the nut just fine for my purposes.
