Over the weekend I acquired a T3 .308 Tactical. Although I'm really pleased with the rifle overall, I'd like a to change out the bottom metal and magazine for something more versatile.

Anyone have any experience with CDI? And is this T3 a long or short action?

Other recommendations?

Thank you in advance for your courteous and knowledgeable replies.

The T3 tac is a sweet rifle, these rifles are very good from the factory, and usually very accurate too. They do have a few weak points though and the plastic magazine system is one.
All of the T3's are essentially long actions, those used for the short action cartidges, just have a bolt stop installed.
You'd want to buy the short action one if you're gonna install it you're self.

The CDI bottom metals are of very good quality, the finish is good and they're reasonably priced,I have a few of these on other rifles. As for the T3 i don't have one on it, but i've used a modified T3 quite a lot and the CDI DBM has been working great.
I'd choose CDI if i were you. As if you wanna change to a long action cartidge in the future, or just want more length to seat bullets out in a SA caliber (no issue with the 308). The DBM inlets are identical, CDI is also the only manufacturer that makes T3 Long Action DBM's.

If it was me, and I was going to send the rifle off for inlet, installation and bedding, i'd just get the bolt stop removed and run LA mags any way. That's just my personal opinion though.

I would advice you to change the factory aluminum recoil lug too, when you're first at it. The aluminum is rather soft and will get deformed from recoil over time, even with a low recoil caliber as the 308 win.

If it was mine i'd change the bolt shroud also, it does not affect the function or accuracy, I just don't like plastic parts on a bolt rifle.

This is my setup (scope arrived only yesterday and still need to torque everything down properly.

Tikka T3 Tactical with 20" barrel 1 in 11" twist
.308 WIN
Vortex RAZOR HD 5-20 with EBR3 reticle (did order the EBR2B but guess that was too much to expect here in Europe)
Vortex 1" 35mm rings (46mm height over bore, that is 1.81" for you Anglo-Saxons :) ) prolly can't get it any lower than that.
Vortex level (this was in the RZR kit together with the sunshade and killflash insert)
Roedale precision RCSII FDE chassis
Roedale precision Muzzle brake
Atlas Bipod
some odds and ends

As i am in europe currently I don't know about availability and delivery times for European manufacturers to the US.
This is a AICS clone using AICS magazines but Roedale also makes T3 aftermarket parts themselves.

Thank you all for sharing your knowledge.

I've gotten the CDI setup from CDI, went ahead on picked up a new bolt handle & shroud from Sigma Components and a recoil lug from Tikka Performance. When I pulled the gun apart and got looking at what I had to work with the factory Tactical stock... oh, what the hey, ordered a Manners MCS-T4a. I'm having the factory muzzle threads turned down to 5/8-24 so I can use my can on it.

Should be a fun little project.
