Hi guys new to the forum and new to long range shooting. After a long wait my 50 bmg is almost done being built. should ship out in 2 weeks. I need optics help. the rifle is a zel custom tactilite T2 with match grade 32 inch barrel and billet single shot ar15 lower. I want a nifhtforce scope with some serious magnification but im reading with stronger magnification I will not be able to shoot from closer distances like 100 yards and further distances like 1000 yards. is this true? is it limited do to too little moa adjustment. I scope I wanted is the nightforce NXS 12-24×56. my optic budget is about 2200. what would u buy if your goal Is to be able to blow stuff up at 100 yds in your backyard and also be able to hit the range at 1000. any help would be great. Please dont crucify me for wrong terminology or if this is a stupid post haha.

Those scopes are mainly for benchrest shooting. They have little elevation adjustment. I have the NXS 5.5-22x and its perfect for super far distances. Hey maybe you might want to shoot 2000 yards with that thing but with the 12-42x56 you would never get out that far. Most people don't usually use above 20x on their scope anyways. High power really magnifies the mirage.

Yep, the most common optics fail for ELR shooting is getting a high magnification scope. Your number one limitation will be available elevation, not magnification. For that reason, a lot of folks go with a max magnification of 25x and a 30-40MOA base/rings combination.

I shoot 1760 out to 2300 yds. with my .338 LM here in So. NV.

I have a NF NXS 5.5-22x50mm, 1/4" MOA, O stop on my 110 BA .338LM.

In addition, I have a NF ATACR on my new SAC .338LM. 5-25x56mm, 1/4" MOA, O stop.

The first scope has 100 MOA adjustment and the ATACR has 120 MOA adjustment.

Both have custom titanium rails with a 40 MOA cant on the 110 BA & a 45 MOA cant on the SAC .338.

I rarely get past 19 X power on both.

More importantly is having enough elevation on your turret.

These combinations have worked well for ELR shooting.

Good luck on your new stick.

The Nightforce 5.5-22 is a great choice. Like stated above you probably won't be able to use much higher magnification depending on mirage.

If you want a 2nd focal plane scope you can buy a ATACR for the money you have budgeted contact HIDE vendors.
