I'm a MOA guy and I was really sold on the EBR2B reticle but having never used one I started looking at the new NF scope. I know both will be tuff as nails but which has better glass? Which would you get out of the two? I know the HD is a big scope but that really doesn't bother me as my rifle is big and heavy already. The weight will help with recoil, lol. Im really torn between these two scopes...

You're comparing two completely different types of scopes. One is FFP and one is SFP.

Both scopes will serve you well depending on what you want to use them for.

Just so you know, the Vortex is about an inch and half longer than the Nightforce... while the Nightforce is actually the heavier of the two scopes... as it should be considering it has a larger Objective lens.

If SFP is what you want, it's gonna be hard to beat the Nightforce ATACR... if FFP is what you want, there are a LOT of options right now at a price similar to the Razor.

Prices similar tonthe Vortex, like what? Remember i am only interested in an MOA scope. I just dont see too many options other than those in that price range...

I'm sorry, i misread your original post. In terms of MOA I can be of no help. :(

if you're a MOA guy I think you can get the ATACR in MOAR. That would help you more than the ebr-2b unless you can get that in MOA dots but off the top of my head I don't think you can. I have the Razor and it is an outstanding optic. I would be willing to bet however that the ATACR has better glass. if you really want MOA then I would look into a MOA/MOA setup first and foremost, then figure out if you want/need sfp or ffp then go from there. try to get both in your hand. I personally like mil/mil and the Razor with mil turrets is great along with the ebr-2b is by far my favorite reticle. I sent in a question to Vortex wondering about a 5-25 in the works and well they don't. They did say they would pass it along but you would think something like that they would already know or be working on....

I played with the NF ATACR yesterday at cabelas. I liked how robust it felt. I preferred the turrets on my razor hd better. Amd I wasnt impressed with the glass. To my eye the razor has it beat. The swaros were definitely clearer side by side.

Had both of the scopes your looking at. The difference is one is FFP and one SFP other then that both are very solid offerings and well serve you well but overall I like the ATACR quite a bot more then the Razor. I recently attended the sniper advanced course and did a considerable amount of ranging and long range unknown distance shooting and the ATACR was right on in every application. The MOAR measured right on, and like all NightForce scopes mechanically its perfect. If glass is your thing I give the edge there as well. I like the ATACR so much I recently sold the Razor to fund another ATACR so if you want MOA then the best I know of for the price is the ATACR.

What kind of rifle and what kind of shooting?

I was exactly in your shoes and ended up buying the Vortex HD/SPUHR group buy from Mile High. I looked through the ATACR and an NSX outside and obviously the ATACR was better. Then I looked through the ATACR and the Vortex HD and I couldn't tell a difference. I'm an MOA guy as well. I didn't need a FFP scope but knew that having one over a SFP would not hinder me shooting at distances so I chose the Vortex HD. I really like the reticle on the Vortex as well. $1999 for a Vortex HD (which costs about $1999 in stores and $389 for a SPUHR mount) or $2328 for an ATACR (now add another $200-$300 for a mount). I saved $600 for a scope that in my opinion is comparable to the ATACR. When ATACR's come down in price (buying used of course) I'll be grabbing one of those but I feel I made a very good decision.

Bought an ATACR , MOAR, MOA from Jay at SportOptics last month. They shot me a very good price on the scope as well as NF rings. Give them the opportunity to quote you a price.
I shoot all known distances, have used MOA for some time...and don't really care for a FFP scope. So my choice was clear.

    FN in MT

Okay thanjs guys for the info! This is going on a long range bolt gun. Right now 90% of my shooting is known distance and i have been doing it with a SFP PST 6-24. So FFP is not something I am stuck on while I admit it is a desirable option. When Christmas is over I am going to pick one of these up.

Ive played with a few brands, and have to say I like the peace of mind from the vortex, I can be rough on my gear and knowing vortex will repair or replace no matter what makes me a bit more comfortable. to me the NF does have slightly and I mean slightly better glass. but not enough for to pay NF for my heart attack when I slip and tumble over a log and bust a turret or glass.

I scratched the objective on my NXS doing a stalk, sent it in to the factory and had it back in 10 days. Not a single question was asked and then it was in the shop they gave it a full inspection and brought it back to like new condition. There is NO issues with NF CS, and from what I hear Vortex is also top tier.

both are going to be great scopes, it really comes down to SFP vs FFP. for me, ive shot alot of SFP NF's in the past and they were all great, but having a recticle that works at all magnifications is somthing that i have come to really appreciate. at this point, considering the options on the market for FFP scopes, i really see no reason to go back to SFP

In my mind, the ATACR with MOAR reticle is the way to go!!! I have been using one since May, and couldn't be happier. Now, if the BEAST that I ordered in March would just get here........

I've been using a Vortex Razor HD with 10mil turrets and EBR-2B reticle and love it, but patiently waiting for the BEAST I ordered in March also. Should be available soon from what I've heard.
