If I'm missing a good thread on the Steiner "military/tactical" scopes, pleases point me in the right direction.

I'm a Henny guy looking for a moderate price point scope to put on some of my lesser used rifles. By moderate, I'm thinking ~$800~$1500 though, price point is somewhat flexible within reason. I'm looking for a moderate power range (nothing in the 20x range, more like low end 2~3X with a top end of 9~15X) and a mid-size objective (42~50mm) for shooting at a nominal 300 yard range with a few random 400~500 yard opportunities with most being in the 100~200 yard range. I'm not reticle picky but, prefer a simple mil-dot system or 'plex' and I'm not hung up on FFP or SFP but, have a preference to match my Henny's. The scope will be mounted on .223 & .308 bolt actions and possibly .308 semi-auto's. Also, I'm not looking for a dedicated paper puncher on a square range at fixed distance. I want the ability to 'plink' feral hogs in brush or take a deer if the occasion presents itself, general 'fun' shoots are probably the best description for this usage as well introducing new shooters to 'better' rifles then the local gun show offerings.

TIA,
Sid

Seriously doubt you can go wrong with the Steiner 3-12. I have the 4-16 variety and it's absolutely spectacular. I almost bought a 3-12 recently but the money had to go elsewhere, but I plan to pick one up in the future.

My Steiner 4-16 glass quality is stunning to look through... has the pop I look for in scopes. I feel like I am looking through my Premier or S&B. The eye box is extremely forgiving, very easy on the eyes. I bet the 3-12 is even better.

Tracking was spot on and never failed me. The reticle was a good thickness... never lost if at low mag and never felt it was too thick at high mag.

What little interaction I've had with customer service has been absolutely top notch.

Iv'e been looking at Steiner myself for my TRG 22 308 20" barrel, but what has held me back is the fact that the 4-16X50 is over 16" long and I believe 31oz. I've seen pictures of this scope on the 20" barreled TRG and it looks Hugh. I believe what hK Dave say's about the glass, it is outstanding and very crisp. It's size it what turns me off....
