So I have a dpms lr308 16"
Free float rail
Lmt 2 stage trigger
Shooting off a bipod with rear bag
Viper pst 2.5-10x32

I don't have a lot of experience shooting for precision but worked up a load and getting pretty consistent 5 shot groups of 1.4-2.0 moa at 100 yards. I can't tell if
1 ) this is realistic accuracy for this system the way it is configured
2) this is realistic accuracy for my skill level
3) I need to tweak my load.

Any thoughts on this setup?

I have a bit of experience with the DPMS guns, and it depends on the barrel profile, as they have numerous barrels from lightweight to bull. The lightest bbls are mostly just above moa "all day long", so groups averaging 1.4"-2" with an average skill level shooter are reasonable. The medium and heavier profiles are mostly sub-moa shooters with decent factory match ammo. So my answers:
1) possibly
2) for most of us, yes:cool:
3) Just try a few different match ammos, you may find one it likes (168, 175, 178 ect)

Yes this is the Lighter weight profile. I was using 178 a max I have 168 smk to try out as well.

Sounds like you are doing pretty good then, you will see tighter groups possibly if you mess around and try to tweak a load to the gun, but most likely you will also see improvement with quality match ammo and trigger time. I see no inherent weakness in your other equipment, give the FGMM 175s a try as they shoot the best out of most of mine, as well as CC gas-gun load.

That sounds about right when you get a bit more experienced and tweak your load some more you should get it around 1-1.5" on a regular basis. The 178 amax in my DPMS was not accurate until I used 2.78" seating depth btw...

Try some 155 Amax's too. I've had fairly good luck with those in my 16. I would also do some groups with very different weights in one session so you can see results, 147's to 178's. When you find a weight it likes, you can refine your load. Shoot off something really solid. I use a pretty heavy sand bag configuration up front to be very consistent. You can always go back to your bipod. You also might want to shoot at one inch black squares. Aim small, miss small. Sounds like you're on the right track.

Set up your gun while focusing on where the target is, so that your entire position is built oriented to the target. This will help you find natural point of aim. Use a rear bag, and make sure your handguard is resting firmly on something, not your barrel. Go to sleep on the gun once it's set-up, and practice dry-firing until the scope reticle doesn't move outside of 1" on the target. Go live and do what you did during your dry-firing, keeping a nice focus on the reticle aligned as perfectly on the target as possible as you squeeze through the target.

See what that does to your groups.
